Canadiens 4, Jets 3:
Tomas Plekanec scored a power-play goal to snap a tie early in the third period and rookie Brendan Gallagher recorded a goal and an assist as host Montreal won its fourth straight game.

Defensemen Andrei Markov and Raphael Diaz continued their brilliant starts to the season with two assists apiece while Rene Bourque and Erik Cole recorded their first goals for the Canadiens. Plekanec received some help from Winnipeg defenseman Ron Hainsey, who had the puck carom off his stick and past Ondrej Pavelec at the 5:31 mark of the third.

Blake Wheeler, Olli Jokinen and Nik Antropov scored and Pavelec finished with 22 saves as the Jets saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

Markov fed Bourque for a one-timer on the power play that got Montreal on the board. It was a two-goal lead 6:18 later after Gallagher’s wrist shot beat Pavelec, but the Jets would cut it down to a 2-1 edge on Wheeler’s power-play goal with 3:50 left in the first.

Winnipeg only got four shots on goal in the second period but slipped two of them by Carey Price - with Antropov sending a rebound into the open net and Jokinen firing his first tally over the goalie’s right shoulder for a 3-2 lead with 8:12 left in the session. Cole scored the equalizer three seconds after a Montreal power play expired, getting assists from the rookie tandem of Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Markov, who missed all but 20 games in the previous two seasons combined, has seven points in the last four contests - with all seven coming on the power play. … Canadiens D P.K. Subban did not play after reaching a contract agreement with the team on Monday. … Winnipeg failed to convert a two-minute 4-on-3 chance in the third period and went 1-for-6 on the power play.
