Preview Roundups
December 17, 2019
Los Angeles at Boston 7:00 PM ET
After finally putting an end to a season-worst, five-game winless drought last time out, the Boston Bruins look to regain their mojo when they kick off a four-game homestand against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. The Atlantic Division-leading Bruins have lost only once in regulation at home and own a 12-1-5 record at TD Garden.
Buffalo at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
Captain Jack Eichel aims to pull into a tie for the second-longest point streak in franchise history when the Buffalo Sabres continue their three-game road trip against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Eichel's 16-game point streak (15 goals, 14 assists) is one shy of a pair recorded by Dave Andreychuk, and two in back of Gilbert Perreault.
Ottawa at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning have already matched the amount of regulation losses they had at home last season and look to start taking full advantage of a stretch at Amalie Arena when they host the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night. The Lightning dropped to 8-7-1 at home with a 5-2 loss to NHL-best Washington on Saturday, again falling victim to a few mistakes that they could not recover from.
Nashville at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders have alternated Semyon Varlamov and Thomas Greiss since the start of the season - an enviable situation since they are No. 1 goaltenders. Greiss will be between the pipes when the Islanders host the Nashville Predators on Tuesday after Varlamov made 33 saves in a 3-2 overtime victory over Buffalo on Saturday.
Anaheim at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers are licking their wounds after a disastrous three-game road trip in which they were battered by both injury and opponents while being outscored 14-5 on the scoreboard. The Flyers hope a return home is just what the doctor ordered on Tuesday when they host the Anaheim Ducks.
Columbus at Detroit 7:30 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets are 2-4-2 in their last eight games with both wins coming against the NHL-best Washington Capitals and will try to maintain their focus when they visit the league-worst Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Oliver Bjorkstrand has scored in only two games during that stretch - both against Washington - after recording two goals in Monday's 3-0 victory over the Capitals, and Columbus also won at Washington 5-2 on Dec. 9.
Carolina at Winnipeg 8:00 PM ET
It’s been a strong road trip to Canada so far for the Carolina Hurricanes, who finish four straight games outside the United States on Tuesday at the Winnipeg Jets. The Hurricanes are 2-0-1 through three games at Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary - the latest an impressive 4-0 shutout of the Flames on Saturday as goalie James Reimer stopped all 32 shots and forward Warren Foegele netted two short-handed goals as Carolina improved to 11-4-1 in its past 16 games.
Pittsburgh at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to welcome back one superstar from illness, but one forward who is playing like an elite talent was under the weather on Monday. Evgeni Malkin is expected to return to the lineup on Tuesday when the Pittsburgh Penguins visit the Calgary Flames.
Montreal at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens are embarking on a season-long seven-game road trip that will carry them through the end of the calendar year -- and it may be the best thing for the club considering the struggles on home ice. The Canadiens will kick off the trek against one of their favorite opponents when they take on the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night.
Minnesota at Vegas 10:00 PM ET
The Vegas Golden Knights have earned points in eight of their last 10 games (7-2-1) and are trying to re-establish their dominance at home entering Tuesday night's matchup against the Minnesota Wild. The Golden Knights have won their last two at T-Mobile Arena in impressive fashion but have dropped all three home matchups to the Wild.
Arizona at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
Taylor Hall is expected to make his Arizona debut when the Coyotes visit the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. Hall, who was kept out of the lineup by New Jersey on Friday at Colorado and Saturday at Arizona as a precaution before Monday's trade, joins a club that began the week in first place in the Pacific Division by one point and was in need of an offensive spark that they hope the 2018 Hart Trophy winner can provide.
