Preview Roundups
December 05, 2019
Chicago at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins have gone nearly a month without losing in regulation and will put myriad streaks on the line when they host the skidding Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night. The only team not to lose in regulation at home (12-0-4), the Bruins are riding an eight-game winning streak and have earned points in their last 12 contests (9-0-3).
Colorado at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens ended an eight-game losing streak last time out by beating one the NHL’s top teams, and look to parlay that effort when they host the surging Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night. The Canadiens were a frustrating 0-5-3 during their slide before registering 40 shots on net to knock off the New York Islanders 4-2 on Tuesday.
Minnesota at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild have built most of their 10-game point streak without No. 1 goalie Devan Dubnyk and could be short two more key players when they go for a fifth straight victory Thursday against the host Tampa Bay Lightning. The Wild, who are 7-0-3 during their run, lost defenseman Jared Spurgeon (upper body) in the first period and captain Mikko Koivu (undisclosed) in the second Tuesday but rallied from two goals down for a 4-2 victory at Florida.
Vegas at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders have finally cooled off a bit following a six-week stretch in which they were the hottest team in hockey, winning 15 of 16 as part of a franchise-record 17-game point streak. Losers of four of their last six (2-3-1), the Islanders will face a surging opponent when they host the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night.
Arizona at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes have fashioned themselves as one of the tougher road foes in the league. Fresh off winning the opener of a four-game trek, the Coyotes could face an uphill challenge on Wednesday when they tangle with a Philadelphia Flyers team that is in the midst of an 11-game home point streak (7-0-4).
San Jose at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes pushed one of the Eastern Conference's top teams to the limit before being shut out for the second time in three games. The Hurricanes will try their luck against some of the West's best with the start of seven in a row against that conference, beginning with Thursday's home game against the San Jose Sharks.
NY Rangers at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets knew they faced a pair of daunting challenges entering the season, namely finding a way to replace their leading scorer and two-time Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender. Offense has been an enormous hurdle for the Blue Jackets and they will get a reminder why when they host the New York Rangers on Thursday night.
Winnipeg at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Winnipeg Jets have taken off since the start of November, and hope to once again earn two points against a Central Division rival when they visit the Dallas Stars on Thursday. There certainly is familiarity between the two teams given Thursday’s matchup is their fourth meeting in a 26-day span, and the Jets have won two of the first three meetings after a dominating 5-1 victory on Tuesday in Winnipeg improved them to 11-3-1 since Nov. 1.
Buffalo at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames have enjoyed a lengthy respite on the heels of a hectic November that featured a very public coaching change. Interim head coach Geoff Ward, who initially took the reins for the first time in Buffalo last week, will bid to guide the Flames to a season sweep of the Sabres on Thursday.
