Preview Roundups
November 21, 2019
Buffalo at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins enjoyed a much-needed breather after a difficult stretch in which they lost five of six games (1-2-3) and hope to keep the momentum going against a slumping Atlantic Division rival. Boston has yet to lose in regulation at TD Garden and puts an 11-game home point streak on the line against the visiting Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night.
Anaheim at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers are enjoying their new lofty position - four points out of first place in the Atlantic Division - and look to continue the rise when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night. The Panthers have won four of the last five games after knocking off Philadelphia 5-2 on Tuesday, which ended a stretch of six consecutive one-goal contests (3-2-1) and improved their home record to 5-2-2.
Pittsburgh at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders have been pushed to the limit by the Pittsburgh Penguins on two occasions during their franchise high-tying 15-game point streak, with the Metropolitan Division rivals ultimately skating away with a road overtime victory apiece. The current Islanders club aims to etch its name into the record books on Thursday when they complete a home-and-home series with the Penguins at Barclays Center.
Philadelphia at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes have been one of the streakier teams in the NHL, with the team riding a roller coaster of emotions after bunching together runs of both wins and losses this season. The Hurricanes aim to counter a four-game skid by matching a season high with their fifth straight victory on Thursday when they host the Philadelphia Flyers, who have lost four in a row (0-2-2).
Detroit at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
Wins have been hard to come by for the Columbus Blue Jackets, mainly due to a sputtering offense that has produced the fewest goals in the league. The Blue Jackets, however, are coming off a season-high goal output and are seeking to win three straight for the first time when they host the Detroit Red Wings in Thursday's finale of a three-game homestand.
Calgary at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues spun out of an 0-1-2 stretch with a solid victory and try to keep the good times rolling when they host the struggling Calgary Flames on Thursday. St. Louis defeated 2018-19 Presidents' Trophy winner Tampa Bay 3-1 on Tuesday with a solid defensive effort and will try to hand Calgary its sixth straight loss.
Vancouver at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
One struggling team’s losing streak will end Thursday as the Nashville Predators look to avoid a sixth straight loss when they host a Vancouver Canucks team mired in a 1-5-2 rut. The Canucks opened their six-game road trip Tuesday against Dallas and extended their losing streak to three after a 6-1 setback.
Colorado at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche are performing remarkably well without major pieces in their lineup as they complete a five-game road trip Thursday against the Minnesota Wild. Colorado, playing without all-star forwards Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog, has won five of its last six games - two of three without their top goaltending tandem - while other injured players keep the revolving door spinning.
Tampa Bay at Chicago 8:30 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning are still finding their way after a historic 2018-19 regular season and look to avoid a third consecutive loss when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night. The Lightning looked like they were building something with three wins in a row, capped by a nine-goal explosion against the New York Rangers, but dropped the last two games versus Winnipeg and St. Louis.
Winnipeg at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Dallas Stars are one of the hottest teams in the NHL, with wins in 11 of the past 13 games, and have a chance to avenge one of those two defeats when they host the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. The Stars kept things rolling in Tuesday’s 6-1 home rout of Vancouver as captain Jamie Benn scored twice and recorded an assist, helping lift Dallas to its fourth victory in a row and giving the Stars an 11-1-1 record following a 1-7-1 start to the season.
Toronto at Arizona 9:00 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs used the off day to fire veteran coach Mike Babcock after the team's losing streak stretched to six contests, and Sheldon Keefe will take his place behind the bench when they continue a six-game road trip Thursday against the surging Arizona Coyotes. The Maple Leafs lost in a shootout to start the streak and gave up 24 goals in the last five games after losing 4-2 at Vegas on Tuesday, spelling the end of Babcock's tenure and moving Keefe from the AHL to the NHL.
San Jose at Vegas 10:00 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks have been trying to dig out of a hole since dropping their first four games of the season, an ugly start that began by losing both ends of a home-and-home to the Vegas Golden Knights by a combined 9-2 count. San Jose has a chance to earn a measure of revenge when it visits the Golden Knights on Thursday night.
Edmonton at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
Captain Connor McDavid recorded his third straight three-point performance in his last outing to become the first Edmonton Oilers player to accomplish the feat since Hall of Famer Mark Messier in January 1990. McDavid looks to continue his torrid stretch on Thursday when the Oilers visit the Los Angeles Kings.
