Preview Roundups
November 18, 2017
Calgary at Philadelphia 1:00 PM ET
One of Johnny Gaudreau's hockey idols was Daniel Briere while the current Calgary Flames superstar forward was growing up just across the Delaware River in Carneys Point, N.J. Should his schedule allow, Briere likely will be in attendance as Gaudreau carries a career high-tying eight-game point streak into Saturday afternoon's tilt versus the Philadelphia Flyers.
Edmonton at Dallas 2:00 PM ET
The Dallas Stars limp home from a three-game winless road trip to face another struggling team when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday afternoon. Dallas suffered a pair of lopsided drubbings sandwiched around a shootout loss to fall to 3-7-1 away from home this season, including a 5-4 setback at Edmonton late last month.
Arizona at Ottawa 2:00 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators didn't exactly put their best foot forward in their first game back at Canadian Tire Centre since venturing to Sweden to participate in the 2017 SAP NHL Global Series. The Senators would be wise to turn it up a notch in front of their home fans against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday afternoon before playing 10 of their next 11 on the road.
New Jersey at Winnipeg 3:00 PM ET
Two teams off to strong starts meet Saturday when the New Jersey Devils visit the Winnipeg Jets, a mid-afternoon contest where both teams will have to overcome working overtime Thursday night. The Jets were able to find some late-game magic in a 3-2 home shootout victory over the Flyers, tying the game on Mark Scheifele’s goal with 49 seconds left, while the Devils played nearly 65 minutes of scoreless hockey before allowing a goal with three seconds remaining in a 1-0 loss at Toronto.
Florida at Los Angeles 4:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings are beginning to lose their way after an impressive October and will look to snap out of their funk Saturday afternoon when the improving Florida Panthers pay a visit. Los Angeles burst out of the gate with points in 10 of its first 11 games (9-1-1), but has gone 2-5-1 since and managed only six goals total while losing the last four - capped by a 2-1 loss to Boston on Thursday.
Carolina at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres are hoping the comforts of home help them end their winless streak, although they have won only two of their first seven contests at KeyBank Center. The Sabres attempt to halt their four-game skid (0-2-2) when they begin a four-game homestand Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Toronto at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The absence of leading goal scorer Auston Matthews has done little to cool off the Toronto Maple Leafs, who carry a five-game winning streak into Saturday night's matchup at the Montreal Canadiens. Matthews, out the past four games, scored the decisive goal last month when Toronto ended Montreal's 14-game winning streak in the series.
NY Islanders at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning continue to cruise along at the top of the NHL and look to extend their winning streak to six games Saturday night when the improving New York Islanders pay a visit. The Lightning are 6-0-1 since losing in regulation for only the second time this season and eased to a 6-1 victory over Dallas on Thursday with a workmanlike performance for 60 minutes.
Chicago at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks set a franchise record in goals for a season opener in their resounding 10-1 shellacking of the Pittsburgh Penguins before ultimately scoring three or fewer tallies 13 times in an excruciating 14-game stretch from Oct. 9-Nov. 9. The Blackhawks have picked up the pace with 15 goals in the last three contests heading into the opener of a three-game road trip in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Minnesota at Washington 7:30 PM ET
Giving up six goals in back-to-back games is cause for alarm for any team, particularly one that features a former Vezina Trophy winner in net. The beleaguered Washington Capitals look to get back on track following a pair of ugly road losses when they host red-hot Jason Zucker and the resurgent Minnesota Wild on Saturday night.
Colorado at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
Clubs that were recently involved in a blockbuster three-team trade meet Saturday when the Nashville Predators try for their eighth straight victory over the visiting Colorado Avalanche. Newly acquired Colorado defenseman Sam Girard, 19, faces the team that selected him in the second round of the 2016 draft for the first time but center Vladislav Kamenev, also acquired from Nashville in the Matt Duchene trade to Ottawa, broke his arm Thursday in his Avalanche debut.
St. Louis at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks hope to avoid a third straight loss at home when they face off against the Western Conference-leading St. Louis Blues on Saturday. Vancouver has dropped four of its last five (1-3-1) at Rogers Arena, including a 5-2 setback against expansion Vegas on Thursday.
Boston at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The Boston Bruins showed some signs of life last time out to break a losing streak and hope to put back-to-back wins together for the first time this season when they visit the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night. The Bruins had dropped four games in a row and seven of nine before grinding out a 2-1 victory at Los Angeles on Thursday with two goals from their blue line.
