Preview Roundups
October 22, 2019
Toronto at Boston 7:00 PM ET
Round 1 of the regular-season rivalry between bitter Original Six rivals Toronto and Boston went to the Maple Leafs, but the Bruins have ample reason to feel good about their chances in the rematch. Boston will be playing only its fourth home game of the season as it attempts to avenge Saturday's 4-3 overtime defeat in Toronto on Tuesday.
San Jose at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres' early-season success traveled well to California as the upstart club posted victories in the final two legs of their three-game trek through the state. The Sabres will complete their first home-and-home series against a Western Conference opponent since November 1996 when they host the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.
Pittsburgh at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers are beginning to warm up with points in five straight games (2-0-3), and look to extend the streak before heading out on the road when they host the injury-depleted Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday. Brett Connolly scored his fourth goal in three games and rookie Samuel Montembeault stopped four shots in overtime as the Panthers earned a 3-2 shootout victory Saturday at Nashville, despite losing three of their top scorers during the contest.
Arizona at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
Their respective two-game starts to the season are not indicative of how the Arizona Coyotes and New York Rangers are faring these days. The Coyotes have won three in a row and recorded a point in four of their last five (4-0-1) entering the opener of a four-game trek on Tuesday against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
Vancouver at Detroit 7:30 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks face a daunting challenge in the form of their schedule in trying to end a run of missing the playoffs for the past four seasons, playing 11 of their first 17 games away from home. After opening the season with back-to-back losses on the road, the Canucks have won two of three on a four-game trek that ends at the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.
Anaheim at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
The Anaheim Ducks came up short in their bid for their best home start in franchise history but now must quickly regroup as they prepare for their second four-game road trip of the season. Anaheim still is off to a strong start overall after missing the playoffs last season, winning six of its first nine games entering Tuesday night's matchup at the Nashville Predators.
Edmonton at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
Edmonton first-year coach Dave Tippett is fortunate to have players such as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl at his disposal, but goaltending has been perhaps the biggest part of the Oilers' early season success. Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen, who are a combined 68 years old, are off to fast starts with Smith likely to get the call Tuesday when Edmonton visits the Minnesota Wild.
Los Angeles at Winnipeg 8:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings needed a spark to snap a three-game home losing streak, and Jonathan Quick and Jeff Carter delivered to provide a much-needed victory heading into Tuesday’s road trip opener at the Winnipeg Jets. Quick, who had allowed 19 goals in losing his first three appearances of the season, stopped 23-of-24 shots while Carter recorded a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Calgary, as the Kings' offense came to life after back-to-back shutouts.
Vegas at Chicago 8:30 PM ET
Marc-Andre Fleury attempts to grab sole possession of seventh place on the all-time wins list when the Vegas Golden Knights conclude their three-game road trip Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Fleury posted a shutout versus his former Pittsburgh team in the opener of Vegas' trek on Saturday to tie Terry Sawchuk with 445 career victories.
Washington at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
John Carlson took it upon himself to turn around the fortunes of the Washington Capitals as the defenseman answered consecutive three-point performances with an assist to extend the team's winning streak to three games. Named the NHL's Second Star of the Week, Carlson carries a seven-game point streak (three goals, 12 assists) into Tuesday's tilt as the Capitals visit the Calgary Flames.
