Preview Roundups
October 12, 2019
Edmonton at NY Rangers 1:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers are off to their best start in 11 years and will be seeking to win their first five games for the first time since the franchise's dominating run in the 1980s. The Oilers look to keep their perfect run intact when they play the third of a four-game road trip with a visit to the unbeaten New York Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
Tampa Bay at Ottawa 4:00 PM ET
Brayden Point showed very little rust in his season debut last time out and the All-Star center looks to keep it going when the Tampa Bay Lightning visit the winless Ottawa Senators on Saturday for an Atlantic Division matchup. Point recorded a pair of goals and added an assist in Tampa Bay’s 7-3 victory at Toronto on Thursday after sitting out the first three games while working his way back from double hip surgery.
Nashville at Los Angeles 6:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings have been extremely generous to start the season, with the 17 goals allowed over their first three games marking their most in that stretch since permitting 20 in 1985-86. The Kings look to shore up their back end on Saturday when they play their home opener against the Nashville Predators.
Winnipeg at Chicago 7:00 PM ET
There were plenty of eyes on Patrik Laine after he signed late in training camp following a disappointing season, but the 21-year-old forward is off to a flying start as the Winnipeg Jets head to Chicago to face the Blackhawks on Saturday. Laine has 10 points in his first five games - including a three-point effort at Pittsburgh on Tuesday and Thursday’s two-goal, two-assist output against Minnesota - as Winnipeg has won three of its past four after dropping the season opener.
New Jersey at Boston 7:00 PM ET
Denied in their bid for their first 4-0-0 start in 19 years, the Boston Bruins will return home Saturday for the first time since losing Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final to St. Louis in June. After completing a season-opening 3-1-0 road trip, Boston will play the first of three straight at home when it hosts the winless New Jersey Devils.
St. Louis at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues dropped their season opener in overtime to the Washington Capitals, casting a pall on a night when the team raised its Stanley Cup championship banner to the rafters. The Blues have not lost since and will carry a three-game winning streak into Saturday night's matchup at the Montreal Canadiens in the third stop of a four-game road trip.
Toronto at Detroit 7:00 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs look to turn things around after allowing 15 goals combined in three consecutive losses when they visit the improving Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night for an Atlantic Division battle. The Maple Leafs coughed up a three-goal lead in a shootout loss against Montreal to begin the streak, fell 3-2 versus reigning Stanley Cup champion St. Louis on Monday and were routed by Tampa Bay 7-3 on Thursday.
Florida at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
Both teams could use a victory to start moving forward after an uneven start to the season as the Florida Panthers visit the New York Islanders on Saturday at Nassau Coliseum following losses a day earlier. The Panthers salvaged a point on Mike Hoffman’s goal with 11 seconds left in regulation before losing 3-2 in a shootout at Buffalo on Friday while New York dropped a 5-2 decision at Carolina.
Columbus at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes were in a battle to remain perfect on the season before taking over late in the second period on Friday. They look to extend their season-opening winning streak to six games on Saturday, when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Washington at Dallas 8:00 PM ET
Washington and Dallas have played nothing but one-goal games this season as the Capitals try to exact some revenge when they visit the Stars on Saturday. Dallas has won three straight meetings after a 4-3 victory Tuesday in Washington on Tyler Seguin's overtime goal, but the clubs enter this one coming off Thursday losses.
Pittsburgh at Minnesota 8:30 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild hope that a bit of home cookin' will cure what ails them as they bid for their first victory of the season on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Minnesota began a campaign with three regulation losses for the first time in franchise history after dropping a 5-2 decision to Winnipeg on Thursday.
Arizona at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche appear poised to join the NHL's elite, but to do so they'll need scoring depth from everyone not named Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen. Joonas Donskoi, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Andre Burakovsky - all in their first season with Colorado - have combined for five goals and the Avalanche hope the secondary production continues as they host the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday.
Philadelphia at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers attempt to win their third straight game to open a season for the first time since 2011-12 when they open a three-game road trip versus the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. The Flyers have gone to great lengths to emerge victorious in their first two contests, skating to a 4-3 win over Chicago in Prague before shutting out New Jersey in Philadelphia.
Calgary at Vegas 10:00 PM ET
Calgary's David Rittich has embraced his new role as a No. 1 goaltender and tries to continue his solid start to the season when the Flames visit the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. Rittich made 34 saves, including one on a penalty shot in overtime, in Calgary's 3-2 shootout victory at Dallas on Tuesday, and has a big fan in Flames captain and reigning Norris Trophy winner Mark Giordano.
