Preview Roundups
August 11, 2019
LA Angels at Boston 1:05 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels put a halt to a season-high eight-game losing streak in impressive fashion, as the beleaguered club benefited from a seven-run inning to post its first win on its nine-game road trip. The Angels aim to finish the trek on a positive note Sunday afternoon as they vie for a split of their four-game series against the Boston Red Sox.
Houston at Baltimore 1:05 PM ET
The Houston Astros took it easy on the Baltimore Orioles in the series opener on Friday, easing to a 3-2 win, but showed off just how explosive their offense can be in a 23-2 drubbing Saturday. The Astros will try to make it a clean sweep when they visit the Orioles for the finale of a three-game series on Sunday.
NY Yankees at Toronto 1:07 PM ET
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. unabashedly is dispelling the myth that the Home Run Derby has a detrimental result on a hitter's swing, as the rookie is batting a robust .330 with 13 extra-base hits and 26 RBIs since the All-Star break. Guerrero looks to continue his torrid hitting on Sunday as the host Toronto Blue Jays bid for their third straight win in the finale of a four-game series against the New York Yankees.
Atlanta at Miami 1:10 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves might be a serious World Series contender if their bullpen was better, but even after a flurry of moves at the trade deadline it is clear their relievers are struggling entering the finale of a four-game series Sunday at the Miami Marlins. Atlanta carried a 6-2 lead into the ninth inning Saturday only to see its bullpen give up six consecutive hits to tie it and send the game to extra innings, when Martin Prado’s sacrifice fly plated the winning run in a 7-6 defeat.
Chi. Cubs at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
A rookie's power stroke has given the Cincinnati Reds a boost in the National League wild card race, and they'll try to ride Aristides Aquino's remarkable stretch to a third straight win over the visiting Chicago Cubs on Sunday. Aquino homered in a loss to the Cubs to begin the four-game set Thursday, slugged another in Friday's 5-2 win and then went deep in each of his first three at-bats in a 10-1 rout Saturday night.
Kansas City at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
Jorge Soler is on track to become the new single-season home run leader for the Kansas City Royals, and the 27-year-old outfielder looks to continue his latest power surge in the finale of a four-game series with the host Detroit Tigers on Sunday. Soler launched his fourth homer in five games during Saturday’s 7-0 victory to pull within five of the franchise record set by Mike Moustakas (38) in 2017.
Washington at NY Mets 1:10 PM ET
The New York Mets are continuing their climb up the standings in the National League, thanks in large part to the Washington Nationals bullpen. The Nationals will try to keep the ball away from the relief corps and avoid a sweep in the three-game series when they visit the Mets for the finale on Sunday.
Oakland at Chi. White Sox 2:10 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics will try to rebound from a frustrating loss when they visit the Chicago White Sox on Sunday for the rubber match of a three-game set. After rolling to a 7-0 victory in Friday's series opener, the Athletics left 13 men on base and went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position in a 3-2 loss Saturday.
Texas at Milwaukee 2:10 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers have been without three of their starting pitchers for the better part of a month and reigning National League MVP Christian Yelich for nearly a week, but that hasn't kept them from enjoying one of their best stretches of the season. The Brewers attempt to earn a sixth straight victory on Sunday, when they look to complete a three-game sweep of their interleague series against the visiting Texas Rangers.
Cleveland at Minnesota 2:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins received a strong pitching effort to end a season-high losing streak and will hand the ball to their ace with a chance to split the four-game series with the visiting Cleveland Indians on Sunday afternoon. Jake Odorizzi and two relievers scattered eight hits as the Twins earned a 4-1 victory Saturday night to regain the top spot in the American League Central by one game over Cleveland.
Pittsburgh at St. Louis 2:15 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been a tonic for whatever ails their opponents since the All-Star break, and no team has benefited from their struggles more over that time than the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals set their sights on a second sweep of their National League Central rival in just over two weeks on Sunday, when they host the Pirates in the finale of their three-game series.
Colorado at San Diego 3:40 PM ET
The San Diego Padres finally have found an opponent they can handle as they try for a four-game sweep at home against the struggling Colorado Rockies on Sunday. San Diego was winless in eight series since the All-Star break (0-6-2) before Saturday's 8-5 victory - highlighted by Manuel Margot's tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning - clinched the set and gave the team consecutive wins for the first time in the second half.
Arizona at LA Dodgers 4:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers do not have many weaknesses as their National League-best 78-41 record attests, and the wild success enjoyed at Chavez Ravine is among their strongest traits. Los Angeles owns the top home record in the majors at 47-16 as it completes a 10-game homestand by hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday for the rubber match of their three-game series.
Tampa Bay at Seattle 4:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays vie for their second straight three-game sweep on the road when they visit the Seattle Mariners for their finale on Sunday. Tampa Bay, which won three contests in Boston From July 30-Aug. 1, moved closer to duplicating the feat after Saturday's 5-4 triumph.
Philadelphia at San Francisco 7:05 PM ET
Kevin Pillar has proven to be a rare constant in the San Francisco Giants’ ever-changing outfield, which has featured cameos from the likes of Connor Joe and Mike Gerber over the past few months. Pillar looks to continue his recent hot streak Sunday when the Giants face the visiting Philadelphia Phillies in the finale of a four-game series.
