August 09, 2019
Oakland at Chi. White Sox 3:10 PM ET
Following a day off to explore the Windy City, the Oakland Athletics continue their visit to Chicago with the first of three games at the White Sox on Friday. The A's dropped two of three in Wrigley Field to begin their six-game road trip, capped by Wednesday's ugly 10-1 shellacking.
Houston at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The Houston Astros look every bit like a World Series contender and bring a six-game winning streak into the weekend. The Astros will try to keep rolling and take advantage of a team sliding rapidly in the other direction when they visit the Baltimore Orioles on Friday in the opener of a three-game series.
NY Yankees at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
Gio Urshela and the New York Yankees followed a familiar formula as the former's second consecutive multi-homer performance helped extend his team's winning streak to a season-high nine games. New York has recorded multiple homers in a campaign-best seven straight contests heading into the second of a four-game series against the host Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.
LA Angels at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox finally received a strong start from their beleaguered rotation in the opener of a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels to post just their second win in 11 games. However, a wrist injury to David Price will force the Red Sox to go with a fill-in starter in Friday night's matchup against the visiting Angels.
Atlanta at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The Miami Marlins endured a miserable week and have been pounded by the Atlanta Braves all season, but they enter the second contest of their four-game set at home on Friday having snapped their six-game losing streak while exacting some revenge against the National League East leaders. The Marlins routed Atlanta 9-2 in the series opener for just their third victory in 13 meetings this season as Brian Anderson recorded his first career multi-homer performance while driving in three runs.
Chi. Cubs at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
Trying to figure out a way to reverse their woes on the road, the Chicago Cubs tried a new approach in the opener of their 10-game home trip -- hanging home uniforms in the locker of each player. The Cubs look to post back-to-back road wins for the first time in more than a month in the second of a four-game set at the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.
Kansas City at Detroit 7:10 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers will attempt to win back-to-back home games for the first time since a three-game series sweep against Kansas City in early April when they host the Royals on Friday. Jordy Mercer belted a two-run homer in the ninth inning of Thursday's 10-8 victory for Detroit, which has won two of three after losing 18 of its previous 21.
Washington at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets took advantage of a weak spot in the schedule to jump back into the wild-card race in the National League and now get a chance to prove themselves against stronger competition with 31 of the next 34 games against teams with winning records. The Mets begin that stretch by hosting the wild card-leading Washington Nationals on Friday in the opener of a three-game series.
Texas at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers finished a long road trip on a good note and will try to carry the momentum into a five-game homestand, beginning with the first of three against the Texas Rangers on Friday. After opening their trip with a 1-5 mark, the Brewers swept three at Pittsburgh and begin this series in the second wild-card spot in the National League.
Cleveland at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians were 11 1/2 games back in the American League Central on June 3 but have a chance to tie for first place on Friday as they visit the division-leading Minnesota Twins. The Indians held on for a 7-5 victory in the series opener, improving to 40-16 in their last 56 contests and 19-6 since losing the first two games after the All-Star break to the Twins at home.
Pittsburgh at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals had a chance to make a statement over the last two weeks with four straight series against some of the best teams in baseball, but the message they got back was not the one they were looking for. The Cardinals will try to avoid setting a season high with a sixth straight loss Friday when they host the opener of a three-game set against the sinking Pittsburgh Pirates.
Arizona at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers are easily on pace to enjoy the best home record in the club's rich history, and they owe plenty of their success in Dodger Stadium to their ability to come up big late in games. Los Angeles puts its five-game winning streak on the line Friday when it opens a three-game set against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks.
Colorado at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
Fernando Tatis Jr. has been a bright spot for the San Diego Padres this season, and the rookie looks to continue his stellar play when the team hosts the Colorado Rockies on Friday for the second contest of their four-game series. Tatis extended his hitting streak to 12 games by going 2-for-5 in San Diego's 9-3 triumph on Thursday.
Tampa Bay at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays are trying to protect their half-game lead over Oakland for the final American League wild-card spot and have an excellent chance to do so as they play 21 straight games against losing teams. Tampa Bay begins a six-game road trip with three against the Seattle Mariners beginning Friday and hopes to improve on its sparkling 35-22 record away from home.
Philadelphia at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
The frustration level slowly is rising around the Philadelphia Phillies, who have lost three in a row and five of their last seven. The Phillies look to kick-start their struggling offense Friday, when they continue their four-game series against the host San Francisco Giants.
