Preview Roundups
August 07, 2019
Miami at NY Mets 12:10 PM ET
The New York Mets have won five in a row and 12 of their last 13 contests to insert themselves as a viable contender in the congested wild-card race in the National League. The red-hot Mets look to complete a four-game sweep of the reeling Miami Marlins on Wednesday afternoon when the NL East rivals reconvene at Citi Field.
Toronto at Tampa Bay 1:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays are already taking advantage of a stretch in which they play 21 straight games against losing teams and will look to continue beating the weak when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon in the rubber match of their three-game series. Tampa Bay improved to 3-1 in its run against teams well out of playoff contention by erasing a six-run deficit Tuesday and winning 7-6 on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and two out in the 10th inning.
Texas at Cleveland 1:10 PM ET
The Texas Rangers still have a ways to go before contending for an American League wild card spot is realistic, but they can build a season-high winning streak Wednesday in a single-admission doubleheader against the host Cleveland Indians. The Rangers have won five in a row after taking the series opener 1-0 on Monday, before inclement weather postponed Tuesday’s scheduled contest.
Chi. White Sox at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers each had miserable starts coming out of the All-Star break, with the division rivals combining for six losing streaks of at least four games. Detroit seeks to post back-to-back home wins for the first time since the first week of April in the finale of four-game set versus Chicago on Wednesday afternoon.
Atlanta at Minnesota 1:10 PM ET
Freddie Freeman doesn't get to play often in Minnesota, but the Atlanta Braves first baseman is enjoying his time there entering Wednesday’s finale of a three-game interleague series against the Twins. Freeman has homered in the first two games of the series, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs Tuesday as the National League East-leading Braves evened the series with a 12-7 victory, and he enters Wednesday 9-for-17 with three homers and 10 RBIs in four career games at Target Field.
Colorado at Houston 2:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros will try to finish off a perfect homestand prior to a long road trip when they cap a two-game series with the visiting Colorado Rockies on Wednesday afternoon. Zack Greinke's debut as an Astro was not a memorable one but the bats picked up the slack as Houston rolled to an 11-6 win in Tuesday's series opener.
Oakland at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics have enjoyed hitting at Wrigley Field the last two days and hope to leave the legendary park with a series victory when they visit the Chicago Cubs for the finale of a three-game set on Wednesday afternoon. The Athletics launched three homers in the series-opening 6-5 loss before scoring eight times in the second inning Tuesday en route to an 11-4 victory.
St. Louis at LA Dodgers 3:10 PM ET
Rookie Dustin May will have an opportunity to be a YouTube sensation when the Los Angeles Dodgers try for a three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon. May, who is 6-6, 180 pounds with red hair that hasn't been cut since high school, makes his second career start after losing his debut Friday at Dodger Stadium as Wednesday's contest will air only on the internet.
Washington at San Francisco 3:45 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants appeared to be a legitimate contender for the postseason in late July, but they've been a different team thus far this month. San Francisco attempts to avoid a three-game sweep when it hosts the Washington Nationals on Wednesday afternoon for the finale of their series.
Texas at Cleveland 4:35 PM ET
The Texas Rangers still have a ways to go before contending for an American League wild card spot is realistic, but they can build a season-high winning streak Wednesday in a single-admission doubleheader against the host Cleveland Indians. The Rangers have won five in a row after taking the series opener 1-0 on Monday, before inclement weather postponed Tuesday’s scheduled contest.
San Diego at Seattle 6:40 PM ET
After beginning their road trip by dropping three of four to the National League-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Diego Padres took out their frustrations Tuesday on the Seattle Mariners. They look to complete a sweep of the two-game interleague series when they visit the Mariners on Wednesday.
Milwaukee at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers have won 11 of their 15 encounters against the Pittsburgh Pirates despite outscoring their National League Central rival by just 11 runs this season. The visiting Brewers hope to have a rested Christian Yelich return to the lineup on Wednesday as they bid to complete a three-game sweep of the Pirates.
NY Yankees at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees seem to set a record every time they take the field at Camden Yards, and they'll have a chance at another notable achievement when they finish the three-game series against the host Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. One night after they set a major league record for most home runs hit in a visiting ballpark in one season with 32, the Yankees added six more blasts in Tuesday's 9-4 victory - their seventh straight.
Kansas City at Boston 7:10 PM ET
Dismal starting pitching has been the biggest culprit during the current tailspin of the Boston Red Sox, who have lost nine of 10 entering the rubber match of a three-game set versus the visiting Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will go for his 14th win for Boston, which attempts to salvage a series win against Kansas City.
Philadelphia at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks aren't going away and will try to get a little closer in the National League wild-card race when they host the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday for the rubber match of their three-game series. Arizona pulled within 2 1/2 games of Philadelphia for the second wild card with an 8-4 victory on Tuesday in a game started by Mike Leake, who replaced ace Zack Greinke in the rotation.
