August 05, 2019
Miami at NY Mets 4:10 PM ET
The New York Mets surprised some by buying instead of selling in front of the trade deadline and the team is rewarding its front office's faith by bashing its way into wild card contention in the National League. The Mets can jump above .500 with a strong showing when they host the Miami Marlins in a straight doubleheader on Monday.
Milwaukee at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
Road woes have hindered the Milwaukee Brewers of late but they hope to take advantage of a struggling Pirates team in Pittsburgh as the National League Central rivals meet for the first of three games Monday. A three-game sweep at the Chicago Cubs over the weekend gave the Brewers a 1-5 mark on their current nine-game road trip and a 6-14 record away from home since mid-June.
NY Yankees at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
After concluding a four-game sweep of a division rival at home, the New York Yankees begin a seven-game road trip against two others when they play the first of three against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday. New York, which also faces Toronto on its trek, has won five straight overall following Sunday's 7-4 triumph over Boston.
Kansas City at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox look to end their baffling freefall when they begin a seven-game homestand against two fading teams with the opener of a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Monday. The Red Sox looked as though they were close to taking control of the American League wild-card race a week ago but have dropped eight in a row following Sunday’s 7-4 setback against the AL East-leading New York Yankees.
Toronto at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays are one of the hottest teams in the American League with wins in six straight games and are trying to take advantage of a weak spot in the schedule while they advance toward a playoff spot. The Rays will try to pick on another sub-.500 team when they host the Toronto Blue Jays in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.
Texas at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians continue to improve the best record in the major leagues (37-15) since June 4, and their offense has played a big part in the surge as they prepare to host the Texas Rangers on Monday for the opener of their three-game series. The Indians have won 16 of their last 21 contests and scored at least six times in 13 of their past 20 after belting three homers in Sunday's 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
LA Angels at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Cincinnati Reds are operating on the periphery of the National League wild-card race but hope to stay relevant on a six-game homestand, beginning Monday with the first of two interleague affairs with the Los Angeles Angels. The Reds are 3-0-1 in their last four series after gaining a split with the Atlanta Braves following a wild 6-4 win in 10 innings Sunday.
Chi. White Sox at Detroit 7:10 PM ET
Offensive explosions have been too few and far between recently for the Chicago White Sox, who dropped 16 of their first 20 games following the All-Star break due in part to a lack of production at the plate. Coming off a rare series win and their best offensive showing in nearly two months, the White Sox look to continue a strong start to a seven-game road trip Monday when they visit the Detroit Tigers for the opener of a four-game set.
Miami at NY Mets 7:40 PM ET
The New York Mets surprised some by buying instead of selling in front of the trade deadline and the team is rewarding its front office's faith by bashing its way into wild card contention in the National League. The Mets can jump above .500 with a strong showing when they host the Miami Marlins in a straight doubleheader on Monday.
Oakland at Chi. Cubs 8:05 PM ET
Two teams with postseason aspirations who are riding three-game winning streaks collide on Monday, when the Chicago Cubs host the Oakland Athletics for the opener of their three-game interleague series. Chicago moved past St. Louis and opened a 1 1/2-game lead in the National League Central by recording a three-game sweep of Milwaukee over the weekend.
Atlanta at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins are slugging home runs at a record-setting pace as they continue to try and solidify their lead in the American League Central, winning eight times in their past 10 games entering Monday’s home series opener against the Atlanta Braves. The Twins have hit at least one homer in 18 of the past 19 contests going into the three-game interleague series that features two of the major league’s most productive power hitters during the past two months.
Philadelphia at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
Vince Velasquez will bid to follow up his memorable cameo in left field with a strong performance on the mound Monday as the Philadelphia Phillies begin a seven-game trek with the opener of a three-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The right-hander fired a strike to the plate from the outfield to throw out a runner in the 14th inning before making a tumbling catch in the 15th on Friday.
Washington at San Francisco 9:45 PM ET
The Washington Nationals and San Francisco Giants were two of the hotter teams in the majors for quite some time before running into recent cold spells. Both clubs aim to heat up at the other's expense on Monday when they open a pivotal three-game series in San Francisco.
St. Louis at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers have not been stymied by an opponent very often en route to building the best record in the majors, but one such exception was an early series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers eye their first win of the season in five tries against the Cardinals when they host the opener of a three-game set on Monday.
