Preview Roundups
August 03, 2019
Boston at NY Yankees 1:05 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox are enduring their first five-game slide since July of 2015 and are showing no signs that they are ready to dig out of the hole and get back into the postseason race. The Red Sox will try to stop the skid and knock a couple games off their deficit in the American League East when they visit the New York Yankees for a day-night doubleheader on Saturday.
Milwaukee at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs always seem to enjoy the friendly confines of Wrigley Field but especially this season as they continue their three-game series with the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday afternoon. Chicago, which owns the worst road record in baseball (21-33), improved to 37-18 at home with a 6-2 victory over Milwaukee on Friday.
Miami at Tampa Bay 6:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays plugged some holes at the trade deadline and received instant dividends while finishing off an impressive three-game sweep at Fenway Park. The suddenly surging Rays can look forward to an inviting stretch against many of the game's lesser teams, beginning Saturday with the first of two versus the visiting Miami Marlins.
Chi. White Sox at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
Aaron Nola has not lost in six weeks and the Philadelphia Phillies desperately need another strong effort from their ace right-hander when they resume a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night. The Phillies fell to 3-4 on their nine-game homestand after dropping a 4-3 decision in 15 innings in the series opener.
NY Mets at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
The acquisition of All-Star right-hander Marcus Stroman by the New York Mets was among the more surprising moves in advance of the trade deadline and it is shaping up as one of the shrewdest deals by any team. Stroman will make his National League debut when the Mets resume their three-game road trip at the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night.
Toronto at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays fully committed to the next wave of young talent in their organization following the trades of veterans such as Eric Sogard and Marcus Stroman earlier this week, and they have to be pleased with the early returns. The Blue Jays seek to extend their winning streak to six games - their longest since a seven-game run over three years ago - on Saturday when they visit the Baltimore Orioles for the third of four contests.
Boston at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox are enduring their first five-game slide since July of 2015 and are showing no signs that they are ready to dig out of the hole and get back into the postseason race. The Red Sox will try to stop the skid and knock a couple games off their deficit in the American League East when they visit the New York Yankees for a day-night doubleheader on Saturday.
Seattle at Houston 7:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros continue to pull away in the American League West and will vie for their 13th win in 16 games when they host the Seattle Mariners on Saturday for the second of three contests between the division rivals. The Astros tied a club record as six different players homered en route to a 10-2 victory in the series opener that extended their division lead over Oakland to 8 1/2 games.
Kansas City at Minnesota 7:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins continue to bash their way to victories while staying clear of the rest of the pack in the American League Central. The Twins will try to add a little pitching into the mix and clinch a series win when they host the Kansas City Royals in the second of a three-game series on Saturday.
LA Angels at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
Yasiel Puig has made an impression in the first two outings with his new team and looks to continue making an impact when the Cleveland Indians host the fading Los Angeles Angels in the second of a three-game series Saturday night. Puig recorded a double and a stolen base in his debut and went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs on Friday as the Indians took the series opener 7-3 to increase their lead to two games for the top American League wild card.
Cincinnati at Atlanta 7:20 PM ET
Joey Votto is regarded as one of the best hitters in the majors, and the Cincinnati Reds first baseman continues to excel after a slow start to his season entering Saturday’s game at the Atlanta Braves. The 35-year-old, who reached mid-May hitting .206 through his first 38 games, went 2-for-3 with a walk, a two-run homer, two runs scored and three RBIs in Friday’s 5-2 victory to give him a .298 mark with eight homers, 15 doubles, 27 walks and 29 RBIs in his past 64 contests.
Detroit at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers haven't tasted victory nearly enough since their last series against the Detroit Tigers, resulting in a precipitous reversal of fortune for a team that was leading the American League wild-card race just over a month ago. The Rangers attempt to guarantee themselves their first series win since sweeping Detroit in late June when they host the Tigers on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game set.
Washington at Arizona 8:10 PM ET
The Washington Nationals gained ground in the National League East and climbed into a wild-card spot thanks to a stellar effort from their pitching staff in the opener of their nine-game road trip. They hope for a similar performance on Saturday as they continue their three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
San Francisco at Colorado 8:10 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants turn to ace Madison Bumgarner to end a mini-skid on Saturday, when they continue their three-game series against the host Colorado Rockies. The Giants could use a strong outing from Bumgarner after seeing their push for the second National League wild card stall with five losses in their last eight games.
St. Louis at Oakland 9:07 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a big series win at home and sit in first place in the National League Central entering a challenging road trip, beginning with the first of two games at the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. The Cardinals, who also visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on the trip, took the rubber match of a three-game set against the Chicago Cubs with an 8-0 victory Thursday night.
San Diego at LA Dodgers 9:10 PM ET
San Diego Padres outfielder Wil Myers was a forgotten man last month, but the 28-year-old remains a key part of the team’s rebuilding plans. Myers has been moved back into the second spot in the batting order for the Padres, who continue their four-game series against the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.
