July 31, 2019
Atlanta at Washington 12:05 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves enter Wednesday’s contest at the Washington Nationals with a chance to win this showdown series against their National League East rivals, thanks to continued good work from Adam Duvall and Ender Inciarte - neither of whom figured prominently in their plans two weeks ago. With outfielder Nick Markakis sidelined with a fractured wrist, the duo sparked a 11-8 victory Tuesday by combining to go 7-for-10 with five runs scored and four RBIs.
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati 12:35 PM ET
The Cincinnati Reds have made a big splash ahead of the trade deadline by reportedly acquiring right-hander Trevor Bauer from the Cleveland Indians in a three-team deal. They'll try to follow up the major trade with a third consecutive series win when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon in the rubber match of a wild three-game set.
Arizona at NY Yankees 1:05 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks own the best interleague record in baseball and look to parlay that into a two-game series sweep when they visit the New York Yankees on Wednesday afternoon. Arizona on Tuesday improved to 14-5 against the American League with a 4-2 victory and began a stretch in which it plays 24 of 30 games against clubs with a .500 or better record with 21 of its 27 August games against such opponents.
Toronto at Kansas City 1:15 PM ET
Toronto has cornered the market on drafting sons of former major leaguers and the kids are all right as the Blue Jays go for a three-game series sweep of the host Kansas City Royals on Wednesday afternoon. Shortstop Bo Bichette, son of Dante, recorded a single in his first major league at-bat Monday and followed that up by going 2-for-4 with a walk in Toronto's 9-2 victory Tuesday.
LA Dodgers at Colorado 3:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the first team in the major leagues to reach 70 wins this season. The Dodgers lead the National League West by 15 games and look to continue their strong season when they visit the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday afternoon for the finale of their three-game series.
Detroit at LA Angels 4:07 PM ET
Rookie Matt Thaiss is displaying signs that he is getting comfortable against major-league pitchers. The 24-year-old third baseman seeks his fourth consecutive multi-hit performance when the Los Angeles Angels conclude their three-game series against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.
San Francisco at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
Rhys Hoskins is finishing the month of July with a flourish, and the slugger's hot bat has the Philadelphia Phillies tied for the second wild-card spot in the National League. Winners of five of their last seven games, the Phillies bid for a series victory on Wednesday night when they host the San Francisco Giants.
Tampa Bay at Boston 7:10 PM ET
Offense has not been the calling card for the Tampa Bay Rays this season but the bats have come alive during their current six-game road trip. After coming from behind for the second straight game, Tampa Bay will look to post its second straight series win when it resumes a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night at Fenway Park.
Houston at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros look to get another strong performance from a starting pitcher as Jose Urquidy takes the mound in the second contest of a three-game set against the host Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night. Justin Verlander tossed seven scoreless innings with 13 strikeouts in Tuesday’s 2-0 series-opening victory as Houston starting pitchers improved to 10-0 with a 1.30 ERA over the last 12 contests.
Minnesota at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The homer-happy Minnesota Twins only belted one in their series-opening victory over Miami, but a strong pitching performance rendered the Marlins hitless over the final five innings. The Twins aim to eclipse last season's home run total on Wednesday as they bid for a series victory in Miami.
Seattle at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners will try to extend their winning streak to a season-high seven contests when they visit the Texas Rangers for the finale of a two-game set between American League West rivals Wednesday night. Kyle Seager homered and knocked in four runs to increase his hitting streak to eight games as the Mariners took the series opener 8-5 on Tuesday to match their best winning run of the season from April 6-11.
NY Mets at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
Jacob deGrom has not posted back-to-back victories since his first two starts of the season, a streak he can put to an end when the New York Mets continue a three-game interleague series at the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night. The reigning National League Cy Young Award winner has been stellar since the All-Star break, allowing one run over 19 innings.
Chi. Cubs at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals struck first in a significant series with the visiting Chicago Cubs and can try to bolster their lead in the National League Central when the old rivals continue their three-game set Wednesday. The teams entered the series tied atop the division but it was Paul Goldschmidt's solo homer in the sixth inning that snapped a tie and lifted the Cardinals to a 2-1 win.
Milwaukee at Oakland 10:07 PM ET
After enduring a week in which they lost five of six contests, the Oakland Athletics appear to be getting back on track. Oakland seeks its fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday as it hosts the Milwaukee Brewers for the middle contest of their three-game interleague series.
