Preview Roundups
June 30, 2019
NY Yankees at Boston 10:10 AM ET
The first Major League Baseball game played in Europe provided a glimpse into the wacky, drawn-out affairs that often take place between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. The Yankees survived the nearly five-hour marathon and hope to leave London with a two-game sweep when the rivals complete the overseas series Sunday.
Cleveland at Baltimore 1:05 PM ET
Two days, two dominating victories for the major league-worst Baltimore Orioles over the playoff-hopeful Cleveland Indians. The Orioles will try to continue their surprising surge and polish off their first three-game sweep of the season when they host the Indians in the finale on Sunday.
Kansas City at Toronto 1:07 PM ET
Rookie Cavan Biggio is beginning to heat up again and looks to continue the surge when his Toronto Blue Jays go for three wins in a row against the visiting Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon. The son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio launched his first career grand slam in Saturday’s 7-5 victory and is 9-for-27 with seven runs scored and seven RBIs in as many games after his batting average dipped to .203.
Texas at Tampa Bay 1:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays couldn't muster the energy on Friday after a 10-game road trip ended in an 18-inning win at Minnesota on Thursday, but they were back in form on Saturday. The Rays will try to get a decent effort from their ace and pull off the series win when they host the Texas Rangers in the rubber match of a three-game set on Sunday.
Chi. Cubs at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters Saturday that he planned to sit out Javy Baez on Sunday, but the All-Star shortstop could have his skipper rethinking that strategy. Baez struck the decisive blow with a grand slam in Saturday's 6-0 victory in Cincinnati, putting the Cubs in position for a series win in Sunday's rubber match versus the host Reds.
Philadelphia at Miami 1:10 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves are not the only thing standing between the Philadelphia Phillies and first place in the National League East -- the Miami Marlins are proving to be an equally daunting roadblock. Despite owning the worst record in the NL, the host Marlins will go for a series sweep and their sixth straight win over the Phillies on Sunday afternoon.
Washington at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
Washington ace Max Scherzer makes his first start at Comerica Park since he left Detroit to sign with the Nationals prior to the 2015 season when he pitches in the finale of a three-game series Sunday against the host Tigers. Scherzer won the first of his three Cy Young Awards during five seasons with Detroit, going 82-35 in that time frame and helping the Tigers to four straight playoff appearances, but no World Series crowns.
Seattle at Houston 2:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros lost nine of 11 games heading into their series against the Seattle Mariners, and the defeats may have kept coming had it not been for Yuli Gurriel's extra-inning heroics. Gurriel and the Astros look to complete a three-game sweep when they host the Mariners on Sunday.
Minnesota at Chi. White Sox 2:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins slugged five home runs to avoid their first run of three straight losses this year and now look to win a series less than 24 hours later when they visit the Chicago White Sox for the rubber match of a three-game set Sunday afternoon. Max Kepler and Nelson Cruz launched two homers apiece and Miguel Sano hit his third of the series Saturday in a 10-3 victory for the American League Central-leading Twins.
Pittsburgh at Milwaukee 2:10 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers typically haven't had much of a problem winning when Brandon Woodruff takes the mound, but it's been much more of a struggle when any other starting pitcher goes about his business. The Brewers attempt to do their part to pull into a tie atop the National League Central and will also try to win the three-game series with Pittsburgh on Sunday when they host the Pirates.
LA Dodgers at Colorado 3:10 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies have used the last couple days to end a dubious losing streak against a National League West rival and make sure the Los Angeles Dodgers couldn't completely run away with the division before the All-Star break. The Rockies set their sights on a series win as well as a third straight victory over the Dodgers on Sunday when they host the final contest of the four-game set.
Arizona at San Francisco 4:05 PM ET
Madison Bumgarner could be making one of his final starts for the home team at Oracle Park on Sunday, when the San Francisco Giants face the Arizona Diamondbacks in the finale of their four-game series. The 2014 World Series MVP is widely expected to be dealt ahead of the July 31 trade deadline by the last-place Giants, who need a victory to secure their first winning month since last June.
Oakland at LA Angels 4:07 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics have been a force on the road of late and hope to conclude their current trek with another victory Sunday as they visit the Los Angeles Angels. Oakland has won six of its last seven away from home and four of five on its six-game road trip after blanking Los Angeles 4-0 on Saturday.
St. Louis at San Diego 4:10 PM ET
The San Diego Padres haven't been at or above the .500 mark at the All-Star break since 2010 but are heading in that direction as they try for a three-game sweep of the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. San Diego (42-40) routed St. Louis 12-2 on Saturday for its fourth straight victory and eighth in 11 contests behind Manny Machado and Franmil Reyes, who became the first Padres to hit two home runs apiece in the same game at Petco Park.
Atlanta at NY Mets 7:05 PM ET
Austin Riley has played just 42 games in his major league career, but he has taken just fine to the bright lights of New York entering the Atlanta Braves series finale Sunday at the Mets. The 22-year-old rookie left fielder has homered in the first two games of the weekend set, including a go-ahead solo blast in the eighth inning of Saturday’s 5-4 victory - one night after his two-run shot led Atlanta to a win in the series opener.
