Preview Roundups
June 28, 2019
Cleveland at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians got off to a bit of a slow start but are beginning to find their high gear as they approach the All-Star break. The Indians will try to continue taking advantage of a soft spot in the schedule and chip away at the Minnesota Twins' lead in the American League Central when they visit the major league-worst Baltimore Orioles on Friday in the opener of a three-game series.
Kansas City at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays put up a good fight on a six-game road trip but stumble home with a losing record on the excursion after falling to the American League East-leading New York Yankees on Wednesday. The Blue Jays will try to turn things around when they host the Kansas City Royals on Friday in the opener of a four-game series.
Texas at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The Texas Rangers are closer to first place in the American League West than they have been in more than a month and look to extend their winning streak to six when they visit the road-weary Tampa Bay Rays for the opener of a three-game series Friday. Joey Gallo belted two homers, giving him four in his last five contests, to knock off Detroit 3-1 on Thursday afternoon as the Rangers moved within 4 1/2 games of first-place Houston in the division.
Chi. Cubs at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs hit the midway point of the season on a high note, sitting atop the National League Central after squeezing out a dramatic win to earn a split of a four-game series against Atlanta. However, the Cubs have struggled away from home and will try to reverse that trend when they open a nine-game road trip at the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.
Philadelphia at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies saw their losing streak extended to a season-high seven games after being swept by the Miami Marlins before bouncing back with rallies from multiple-run deficits to win each of their last four contests. The Phillies bid to exact a bit of revenge on Friday as they open a three-game series against the host Marlins.
Washington at Detroit 7:10 PM ET
The Washington Nationals have won eight of their last 10 contests to improve to .500 on the season for the first time since April 23. The visiting Nationals aim to move to the positive side of that ledger on Friday, when they open a three-game interleague series against the reeling Detroit Tigers.
Atlanta at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The division-leading Atlanta Braves and New York Mets are far apart in the National League East, but they have one thing in common entering this weekend's three-game series at Citi Field. While both teams are coming off crushing defeats Thursday, the Mets are in dire straits as they attempt to halt a five-game slide behind Jacob deGrom in Friday's series opener.
Seattle at Houston 8:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros are in a funk and not even the friendly confines of Minute Maid Park are helping these days as they prepare to host the Seattle Mariners on Friday in the opener of a three-game series. Houston lost its last two games by a combined 24-2 to Pittsburgh, absorbing its first home series loss of the season (9-1-3) and seeing its lead in the American League West shrink to 4 1/2 games over Texas.
Minnesota at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
After losing the longest game in the history of their home park, the Minnesota Twins will try to muster up some energy at an opponent's field when they open a three-game series at the Chicago White Sox on Friday. The Twins scored two runs in the first inning Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays before they were blanked over the next 17 innings in an eventual 5-2 loss.
Pittsburgh at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates continue to hang around in the National League Central and have a chance to make up ground with 16 straight division contests beginning Friday against the host Milwaukee Brewers. Milwaukee, though, has won six of the first seven meetings this season, including a three-game sweep at Miller Park by a combined 20-9 earlier this month.
LA Dodgers at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
Hyun-Jin Ryu can strengthen his chances to be the National League's starting pitcher in next month's All-Star Game when the Los Angeles Dodgers visit the Colorado Rockies on Friday for the second contest of their four-game series. Ryu leads the majors with a stellar 1.27 ERA and has registered 90 strikeouts while issuing only six walks over 99 innings during a stellar first half.
Oakland at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics have been making a push toward a wild-card spot in the American League, but the Los Angeles Angels have been right on their heels. Los Angeles looks to pull even with its AL West rival when it hosts Oakland on Friday for the second contest of their four-game series.
St. Louis at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
The last two weeks have been a rollercoaster ride for the San Diego Padres, who haven't done much to improve their record despite repeatedly taking advantage of some of the worst pitching staffs in the majors. The Padres figure to get tested a bit more in that regard beginning Friday when they host the opener of a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Arizona at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
Ketel Marte looks to record multiple hits in his 10th straight start when the Arizona Diamondbacks visit the San Francisco Giants on Friday for the second contest of their four-game series. Marte, who will be looking to extend his hitting streak to 11 games, is 24-for-37 with three homers during his hot stretch.
