Preview Roundups
June 17, 2019
Philadelphia at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies were on opposite ends of a 15-run spectrum in their last respective outings, with the former matching a season high for runs scored in a game. The Nationals hope their high-powered offense carries over to Monday night when they open a four-game series against the visiting Phillies.
Tampa Bay at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees are fighting for first place in the American League East, with the defending champion Boston Red Sox lurking in the rear view mirror. The Rays own the best pitching staff of the bunch - and the best in the majors - but the Yankees, who host the Rays in the opener of a three-game showdown on Monday, are putting together the best offense.
LA Angels at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels have been treading water without a key bat all season, but they expect slugger Justin Upton to return Monday for the opener of a four-game series at the Toronto Blue Jays. The 31-year-old, who hit 30 home runs last year for the Angels, has yet to play in 2019 due to a toe injury.
Houston at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros will try to bounce back from their second-most lopsided loss of the year when they begin a three-game interleague series at the Cincinnati Reds. The Astros managed seven hits - all singles - and left 10 runners on base in a 12-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, capping a 5-3 homestand.
NY Mets at Atlanta 7:20 PM ET
Josh Donaldson is red hot since an ejection last week, and has helped catapult the surging Atlanta Braves into first place in the National League East entering Monday’s home series opener against the New York Mets. The veteran third baseman, who was tossed out of a game June 10, homered in all three weekend games against Philadelphia as Atlanta won two-of-three in the series, expanding its division advantage to 2 1/2 games while improving to 9-1 in its past 10 contests.
Cleveland at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians welcome one of their injured starting pitchers back to the mound as Mike Clevinger looks to help them continue their surge in the opener of a four-game series against the host Texas Rangers on Monday. Clevinger has been out with a back injury for more than two months while two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber still is recovering from a broken right forearm that has kept him sidelined since May 1.
Boston at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox have no problem rolling over teams at the bottom of the standings but struggle against teams with winning records. The Red Sox will put a five-game winning streak on the line when they return to competition against top teams while visiting the American League Central-leading Minnesota Twins in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.
Miami at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals have turned around their fortunes at the expense of the National League East, winning two of three at Miami before capturing three of four versus the New York Mets to complete a season-high 10-game road trip. The Cardinals return to the Gateway City to begin a nine-game homestand on Monday with the opener of a four-game set versus the Marlins.
Baltimore at Oakland 10:07 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics look to rebound from a disappointing start to their 10-game homestand when they begin a three-game set against the major league-worst Baltimore Orioles on Monday. The Athletics were pounded 9-2 in the series opener against last-place Seattle, scored 11 times to win ib Saturday and coughed up a one-run lead in the late innings of a 6-3 setback in the finale of the matchup between American League West rivals.
Milwaukee at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers have been scoring at a pretty reasonable clip for the better part of the last month, but it pales in comparison to the weekend the San Diego Padres just experienced. The Padres hope to carry some shred of the offensive momentum they established during their last series into their next one when they begin a three-game set against the visiting Brewers on Monday.
San Francisco at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers showed the Chicago Cubs over the weekend why they own the best home record in the major leagues. They attempt to demonstrate the same thing to the San Francisco Giants when they continue their 11-game homestand with the opener of a four-game series against their National League West rivals on Monday.
Kansas City at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
It's been more than a month since the Seattle Mariners have enjoyed a winning streak of any kind, yet they've managed to avoid a skid for nearly half of that stretch. The Mariners attempt to post consecutive victories for the first time since May 13 and 14 on Monday, when they host the Kansas City Royals for the opener of their three-game series.
