Preview Roundups
June 07, 2019
St. Louis at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs erupted for 23 runs en route to sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field early last month before being limited to just six while being swept away in the Gateway City last weekend. The National League Central rivals will renew acquaintances in Chicago on Friday afternoon with the opener of a three-game series.
Cincinnati at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies won back-to-back contests to put a positive spin on what became a disastrous road trip, a trek that began with four straight losses and featured a season-ending injury to Andrew McCutchen. The Phillies bid for their third consecutive win on Friday when they begin their six-game homestand with the opener of a three-game set against the Cincinnati Reds.
Arizona at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks have lost 12 of their last 18 games as they begin their third 10-game road trip of the season Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays but do so with a positive vibe. Arizona was on the verge of getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers before rallying for a 3-2 victory in 11 innings as manager Torey Lovullo stressed the significance of that accomplishment.
Tampa Bay at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox will try to match their longest winning streak of the season and continue their progress in the American League East when they begin a condensed four-game series with the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. The Red Sox capped a three-game sweep and won their fourth straight overall with a 7-5 triumph at Kansas City on Thursday.
NY Yankees at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The New York Yankees signed DJ LeMahieu to a two-year, $24 million contract during the offseason as an utilityman, but the former National League batting champion had other ideas. LeMahieu carries an 11-game hitting streak - his second of the season - into Friday's opener of a three-game series against the Indians in Cleveland.
Atlanta at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves will try to maintain their recent mastery of the Miami Marlins when the National League East rivals open a three-game series in Florida on Friday night. The Braves are 5-1 against the Marlins in 2019 and have won 20 of the last 26 meetings.
Minnesota at Detroit 7:10 PM ET
With the Minnesota Twins on the verge of their first three-game losing streak of the season, Max Kepler almost singlehandedly carried the American League Central leaders to a victory in their last contest. The Twins' leadoff hitter hopes to prove Thursday's offensive explosion is a sign his roller-coaster last three weeks is back on the upswing when Minnesota visits Detroit for the first of three games against the Tigers on Friday.
Colorado at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
Jacob deGrom won the National League Cy Young Award last year despite winning only 10 games and he continues to struggle picking up victories this season. DeGrom, who has won only once in 10 starts since opening the season with back-to-back victories, will face one of his favorite teams when the New York Mets host the Colorado Rockies on Friday night in the opener of a three-game set.
Oakland at Texas 8:05 PM ET
After dropping two straight series at home, the Oakland Athletics began their 10-game road trip by winning two of three against the Los Angeles Angels. The Athletics attempt to continue that success when they visit the Texas Rangers on Friday for the opener of their four-game set.
Baltimore at Houston 8:10 PM ET
Fresh off a 6-1 road trip, the Houston Astros look to continue their success when they open an eight-game homestand on Friday by hosting the Baltimore Orioles. Houston is an American League-best 22-8 at home as it begins the three-game series against the Orioles, who have lost six of their last eight contests.
Pittsburgh at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET
After getting trampled in back-to-back losses to the Miami Marlins, the Milwaukee Brewers avoided a sweep and got back on track by turning to the long ball in Thursday's series finale. The Brewers had won three of four at Pittsburgh last weekend prior to the three-game set versus Miami and will host the visiting Pirates in a rematch on Friday night.
Chi. White Sox at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox have had plenty of success at home lately, but wins have been hard to come by on the road. They will try to snap a five-game road slide when they begin a three-game series at the Kansas City Royals on Friday.
Seattle at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
Mike Trout routinely torments Seattle pitchers and will look to inflict more damage when the Los Angeles Angels open a three-game series against the visiting Mariners on Friday. Trout is batting .371 with three homers and nine RBIs in 10 games versus Seattle this season and has a career .323 average with 36 blasts and 94 RBIs in 146 contests against the club.
Washington at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
Rookie star Fernando Tatis Jr. is back and ready to provide a much-needed spark for the San Diego Padres, who struggled while their dynamic shortstop recovered from a strained left hamstring. After reaching base three times in his triumphant return, Tatis looks to build on the performance Friday when the Padres continue their four-game series against the visiting Washington Nationals.
LA Dodgers at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers own a sparkling record inside the National League West, but the divisional foe that has given them the most problems is the last-place San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers attempt to break the tie in their season series with their archrival and continue to improve upon the best record in the majors beginning Friday when they visit San Francisco for the opener of a three-game set.
