Preview Roundups
April 16, 2019
Boston at NY Yankees 6:35 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are no strangers to sitting atop the American League East, combining for 17 division titles over the previous 20 seasons. Neither team has played anywhere close to that level in 2019, but the two archrivals will try to generate some momentum against each other when they meet for the first of two games in New York on Tuesday.
Pittsburgh at Detroit 6:40 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates have exchanged wins and losses through their first eight road games and hope to finally string together two victories in a row away from home when they begin a two-game interleague series with the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. A tiebreaking RBI double by rookie Jason Martin in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Pirates to a 4-3 win in the finale of a three-game set at Washington on Sunday.
San Francisco at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants are struggling to score runs through the first two-plus weeks of the season and were nearly no-hit on Sunday, but the team morale is still high. The Giants will try to get the bats going when they begin an eight-game road trip by visiting the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.
NY Mets at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The New York Mets have dominated the Philadelphia Phillies in the season series since 2012, winning 21 of the last 28 sets in that stretch. After working overtime to win the opener, the visiting Mets aim to add to those totals on Tuesday when the National League East rivals play the second contest of a three-game set at Citizens Bank Park.
Baltimore at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays franchise is in its 22nd year of existence and has never held more than a six-game lead in the American League East at any point of the season, but it finds itself on the brink of breaking through that glass ceiling less than one month into the 2019 campaign. The Rays will try to do that and set a club record for the best start in team history Tuesday when they host the Baltimore Orioles.
Chi. Cubs at Miami 7:10 PM ET

The Chicago Cubs have won the opener of four of their first six series of 2019, but they’ve yet to pair it with a victory in the second game. The Cubs will try to change that when they visit the Miami Marlins on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game set.

Arizona at Atlanta 7:20 PM ET
There were some quiet concerns around Josh Donaldson only taking 23 at-bats in spring training, but the Atlanta Braves' third baseman is producing at the plate entering Tuesday’s three-game series opener at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 33-year-old Donaldson brings a seven-game hitting streak into Tuesday, including three consecutive two-hit contests, his first two homers and three RBIs of the season, and a .385 average with a 1.323 OPS during the streak.
Toronto at Minnesota 7:40 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays got their seven-game road trip off to a rousing start with a comeback victory and look to make it two in a row when they visit the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night for the second of four contests. Teoscar Hernandez belted a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth inning among three hits overall Monday as Toronto rallied for a 5-3 victory - just its second in seven road games.
St. Louis at Milwaukee 7:40 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals may wish to entertain the thought of pitching around Christian Yelich, or do a much better job of pitching to him. Right-hander Jack Flaherty will be presented with the daunting task of keeping Yelich in check on Tuesday when the Cardinals continue their three-game series against the host Milwaukee Brewers.
LA Angels at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels welcomed franchise player Mike Trout back to the lineup for the series opener, but his return wasn't enough to propel them to victory. The Angels attempt to even the three-game set when they visit the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.
Kansas City at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox look to record their fourth victory in five contests when they host the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game set. Chicago recovered from a three-run deficit in Monday's series opener as Welington Castillo drilled a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 5-4 victory.
Colorado at San Diego 9:10 PM ET
Following an uncharacteristically slow start at the plate, the Colorado Rockies are showing signs of emerging from their slumber. Slugger Nolan Arenado has homered in back-to-back contests for the Rockies, who aim for a sweep of their brief two-game series against the host San Diego Padres on Tuesday.
Houston at Oakland 10:07 PM ET
The Houston Astros are riding a nine-game winning streak and are getting contributions from up and down the roster. The Astros will try to keep winning at the expense of another American League West rival when they visit the Oakland Athletics for the opener of a two-game series on Tuesday.
Cincinnati at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
A pair of former teammates did all they could to torment the Los Angeles Dodgers, but Joc Pederson had the last word in the series opener. The Dodgers seek their third straight win following a six-game losing streak when they continue their three-game set against the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.
Cleveland at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners have tripled their losses in a four-game span while the Cleveland Indians halted a three-game slide in the series opener. The Indians look to make it two straight wins to start the three-game set when they visit the Mariners on Tuesday.
