Ilya Samsonov made 18 saves to earn his first shutout of the season and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the visiting Nashville Predators 4-0 Saturday night.

Auston Matthews scored two goals and David Kampf and Noah Gregor also scored for the Maple Leafs, who have won four of their past five.

Samsonov, who had not played in the previous five games, earned the 11th shutout of his career. He had missed the past two games because of illness.

Kevin Lankinen stopped 33 shots for the Predators, who had won their previous three games and nine of their past 11. Lankinen stopped two breakaways in the first period.

Nashville's Alexandre Carrier hit the left goal post with a 47-foot shot at 14:11 of the first.

Toronto had a 9-7 edge in shots on goal after a goalless first period.

The Maple Leafs had the first two power plays of the second period but did not score. Nashville had a power play that came late in the period.

Kampf gave the Maple Leafs the lead with his third goal of the season at 14:15 of the second period. Kampf came off the bench, took a pass from Conor Timmins and split the defense before beating Lankinen from close range.

Matthews tapped in the rebound of William Nylander's shot at 17:57 of the second for his 17th goal of the season. Morgan Rielly also earned an assist.

Nashville's Tommy Novak hit the left goal post with a shot in the final seconds of the second period.

Toronto had a 22-13 advantage in shots on goal after two periods.

Matthews scored his 18th at 16:49 of the third on a power play. Ryan McDonagh was off for hooking.

Gregor scored his fourth of the season into an empty net at 18:29.

Toronto goaltender Joseph Woll (sprained ankle) is listed as week-to-week. He was injured during the third period of Thursday's 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators.
