The Red Wings opened the scoring toward the end of the first period on a goal by Michael Rasmussen, who stationed himself in front of the Los Angeles goal and banged home a loose puck into a open goal to give Detroit a lead at 17:05.

Los Angeles answered at 12:47 of the second, tying the game at 1-1 on a goal by Danault, who batted a puck in midair near the Detroit goal past Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic.

The Kings then took a 2-1 lead at 18:11 of the second when Arthur Kaliyev tapped home a loose puck that was on the goal line following a shot from the point by Austin Strand.

Detroit tied the game at 8:39 of the third on a goal by Tyler Bertuzzi, who camped himself in front of the Los Angeles goal and tipped a point shot from Gustav Lindstrom past Kings goalie Jonathan Quick to make it 2-2.

A few minutes later, the Kings regained the lead on another goal by Danault. He took a pass from Trevor Moore on a two-on-one and beat Nedeljkovic stick-side to make it 3-2 Los Angeles at 12:12.

Los Angeles got an insurance goal with 1:28 remaining when Viktor Arvidsson scored into an empty net to make it 4-2.

However, Detroit didn't quit, cutting the Los Angeles lead to 4-3 with 45 seconds left on a goal by Joe Veleno.

The Red Wings couldn't get the equalizer, though, and Adrian Kempe put the game away with an empty-net goal with 10 seconds left.
