Brad Marchand scored twice in a span of 2:42 in the second period as the Boston Bruins never trailed and snapped a three-game road losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday afternoon in Newark, N.J.

Marchand recorded his second two-goal game this season by scoring on a power-play 4:10 into the second period and again on even strength.

Erik Haula scored the first Boston goal late in the first period while Patrice Bergeron also tallied midway through the third. David Pastrnak, the third member of Boston's "perfection line," collected two assists while Bergeron also had an assist, giving the trio a six-point afternoon.

Charlie McAvoy collected three assists and rookie goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 27 saves. Jake DeBrusk added an empty-net goal as the Bruins scored five goals for the second time this season.

Dawson Mercer and Jesper Bratt scored but the Devils were unable to win a fourth straight game for the first time since starting 2018-19 on a four-game winning streak.

New Jersey backup goaltender Jonathan Bernier allowed four goals on 35 shots.

After Haula scored on a rebound with 2:23 remaining in the first, Marchand scored his first goal 4:10 into the second during a power play when he fired a long wrist shot from in between the circles and through traffic over Bernier.

Mercer finished off a three-way passing play with a one-timer over a diving Swayman's glove 28 seconds after Marchand's first goal but the Bruins struck again a little over two minutes later.

Marchand got his second goal when he started a rush up the ice and passed to Pastrnak. Pastrnak's wrist shot was stopped by Bernier but Marchand swooped in alone through the slot and slid the rebound into the vacated left side of the net.

After Boston's Charlie Coyle's clearing attempt from behind the net was unsuccessful, Bratt fired a one-timer over Swayman with 36 seconds remaining in the second to make it 3-2. But Bergeron made it a two-goal game when he jammed in a rebound of a Pastrnak shot shortly after the puck hopped over New Jersey's Ryan Graves' stick in the offensive zone.
