Dylan Larkin scored the only goal during the shootout and the host Detroit Red Wings ended the Vancouver Canucks' three-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory on Tuesday.

Jimmy Howard stopped three shots during the shootout and was credited with 40 saves for the Wings. Justin Abdelkader and Gustav Nyquist scored in regulation for Detroit.

Rookie Elias Pettersson scored his 10th goal for the Canucks. Ben Hutton had the other Canucks goal, while Jacob Markstrom was credited with 28 saves.

Vancouver had a 17-7 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period and took a 1-0 lead.

Pettersson gave Vancouver the lead when he ripped a slap shot from just inside the left circle that beat Howard over his left shoulder. The goal came at the 13:39 mark with assists from Loui Eriksson and Nikolay Goldobin.

Detroit's Martin Frk banged a shot off the goal post later in the period.

Vancouver won a challenge on an apparent Frk goal early in the second period, but Frk was ruled offside upon replay review.

Hutton made it 2-0 at 11:21 of the second period with a shot from the point that deflected off defenseman Danny DeKeyser and past Howard. The Red Wings challenged that the Canucks were offside, but the goal was upheld and they were assessed a minor penalty for a losing challenge.

Detroit killed that off, then was awarded a power play when Vancouver's Adam Gaudette was whistled for holding. Abdelkader took advantage when he snared a loose puck in front and flicked a high shot just under the crossbar at the 13:43 mark.

Nyquist scored on a rebound early in the third to tie it. Jacob De La Rose picked up a loose puck near his own blue zone, skated into Vancouver territory and fired a shot that Markstrom stopped. But Nyquist pounced on the rebound for his second goal of the season.

Markstrom made an outstanding glove save against Nyquist during overtime to send the game to a shootout.
