Artemi Panarin scored 31 seconds into overtime to lead the host Columbus Blue Jackets past the Buffalo Sabres 5-4 on Saturday.

The Blue Jackets won the faceoff to start overtime, and Panarin fired his second overtime game-winner from the left circle. He also tallied in the extra session in the club's season-opening 3-2 win in Detroit.

Panarin and Cam Atkinson each scored twice and had an assist, while Pierre-Luc Dubois had a goal and two assists for Columbus, which won its second straight.

Kyle Okposo, Jeff Skinner, Jason Pominville and Casey Mittelstadt had goals for the Sabres, whose three-game winning streak was snapped. Skinner and Pominvillie added assists.

Jack Eichel and Jake McCabe each had a pair of assists for Buffalo.

Blue Jackets backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo registered 34 saves in his second consecutive start and win, while Linus Ullmark stopped 32 shots in his third appearance for the Sabres.

The Sabres struck quickly against Columbus. The third line scored when left winger Tage Thompson led a 2-on-1 with right winger Okposo, who finished a cross-ice pass from Thompson for his third goal at 1:38.

Okposo has a goal in each of Buffalo's last three games and four points in that span.

Dubois beat Ullmark on the stick side from the right circle at 8:37 for his third goal after a short pass from Panarin for a 1-1 tie.

Skinner grabbed the puck at the bottom of the right circle and zipped in his club-best sixth goal at 14:11 for a 2-1 lead, giving the left winger a five-game point streak and 12 points in his last seven games.

Columbus scored three times in the second period to take a 4-2 lead. Panarin scored his fourth at 1:34 to tie it 2-2 before Atkinson scored twice in 31 seconds to give him a team-high six goals.

Pominville's fifth goal at 2:32 of the third cut the deficit to 4-3 and was his fourth goal in his last four games. Mittelstadt scored his first on the power play at 4:30 to tie it 4-4.
