Darnell Nurse scored at 1:25 of overtime as the Edmonton Oilers rallied to beat the host Winnipeg Jets 5-4 Tuesday night behind a record-setting performance from Connor McDavid.

Nurse's wrist shot from the left faceoff circle beat Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to the blocker side. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins assisted on Edmonton's final three goals, including the winner.

McDavid had two goals and two assists for the Oilers, who scored three times in the third period to overcome a 4-1 deficit and force overtime.

McDavid had a point on each of the Oilers' first nine goals this season, breaking the NHL record of seven to begin a campaign set by Detroit's Adam Oates in 1986-87.

Edmonton's Ty Rattie scored just 18 seconds into the third period, off a pass from McDavid, to spark the Oilers' comeback.

McDavid made it 4-3 at 2:28 of the third, and Jesse Puljujarvi tied the score at 13:39 with a tip-in at the top of the crease off a pass from Nugent-Hopkins.

Adam Lowry scored twice for Winnipeg, which had its 11-game home winning streak snapped that dated to last season. Ben Chiarot and Mark Scheifele also scored for the Jets.

Lowry scored twice in the opening eight minutes, both off his own rebounds, to give the Jets a 2-0 lead.

McDavid halved the lead with a power-play goal at 12:49 of the first, taking a pass from Leon Draisaitl at the blue line and speeding past a Winnipeg defenseman before beating Hellebuyck with a backhander from the top of the crease.

The Jets regained the two-goal lead just 22 seconds later, as Chiarot blasted a shot from the blue line that found its way through a screen and into the lower left corner of the net.

Scheifele scored a power-play goal at 1:02 of the second, after Edmonton was called for too many men on the ice in the final minute of the first period. Patrik Laine and Josh Morrissey assisted.
