Timo Meier and Chris Tierney both collected one goal and one assist and goalie Martin Jones stopped 23 shots as the San Jose Sharks beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 in NHL action Monday night in San Jose.

The Sharks finished a six-game homestand at SAP Center with a 4-2 mark and sit second in the Pacific Division.

Detroit's Trevor Daley opened the scoring at the 5:01 mark of the first period. Henrik Zetterberg sent the puck to the high slot where Daley grabbed it and ripped a shot off behind Jones. At that moment, the Wings held a 7-1 edge in shots.

However, the Sharks responded by taking back all of the momentum, and Joonas Donskoi beat Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard to tie the game at 10:55. Donskoi was left with an open net to finish a perfectly executed three-way passing play that also included Joe Pavelski and Evander Kane.

Eric Fehr then netted his first NHL goal in more than a year at 12:39. Fehr, who spent most of the season in the minors before the Sharks acquired him from the Maple Leafs in February, deflected Brenden Dillon's point shot while San Jose had the goalie pulled for an extra attacker during a delayed penalty.

After the teams traded second-period goals -- Kevin Labanc put the Sharks ahead 3-1 at 1:39 of the middle frame by pouncing on a loose puck only to see Detroit's Gustav Nyquist again make it a one-goal game at 5:05 -- it set the stage for a back-and-forth third period.

Meier scored with a nifty deflection to again give the Sharks a two-goal lead with his 18th of the season at 5:12 of the third period, but Zetterberg brought the Wings back within one just 41 seconds later by finishing a pretty pass from Nyquist to give them some hope. The goal is Zetterberg's 336th, which puts him fifth on Detroit's all-time list.

However Tierney iced it with an empty netter with 94 seconds remaining in regulation.

Howard made 29 saves for the Red Wings, who have lost seven straight, including six in regulation. Tyler Bertuzzi collected three assists in the loss.
