BOSTON -- It all happened in a hurry.

And, for once, it had nothing to do with the team's top line.

The Boston Bruins, down 1-0 early, erupted for four goals in a 4:01 span and then cruised to a 5-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday night.

And the top line didn't have a point.

"Bergy's (Patrice Bergeron) line which has done the lion's share of our scoring this year isn't part of that, that's a good sign," said David Backes, who had an assist in the four-goal flurry and then scored in the second period. "Those guys have carried us for probably the first 12 games and have done the majority of it and to have everyone else chipping in -- it's a great sign."

"It's coming around," said coach Claude Julien. "It's nice to have that balance so you're not relying on one line."

Trailing 1-0 on a Nick Foligno goal, defenseman Torey Krug, Matt Beleskey, Austin Czarnik and Tim Schaller all scored, knocking Sergei Bobrovsky from the net.

"We're out of the game pretty quickly," said Columbus coach John Tortorella. "We haven't been in very many of those games this year. We take our medicine here tonight, regroup on Friday (an off day) and start again on Saturday."

Beleskey and Czarnik also added assists David Krejci had two as Boston raised its record to 8-6-0. Krug and Beleskey both scored their first goals of the season.

Tuukka Rask, beaten early, stopped just 15 shots (two saves in the third period) and raised his season record to 8-1. He allowed a goal with 11:20 left in the game when the Bruins won a defensive zone faceoff and defenseman Colin Miller had the puck roll off his stick, by Rask and into the net -- the goal credited to Sam Gagner, his fourth of the season, even though he never touched the puck while losing the faceoff.

After the game, Julien joked about Miller scoring goals in two straight games -- except this one went into his own net. "He's got a goal, and then he scored his second goal tonight," Julien said.

Bobrovsky, who was given little help and gave up four goals on nine shots, fell to 0-4-2 lifetime against the Bruins. Curtis McElhinney relieved and made 22 saves on 23 shots, as the Blue Jackets failed to get a point for the first time in six games.

"It was forwards, it was defensemen ... and the worst part is we hang out Bob in a game like that when he's been playing so well," said Foligno. "We hung him out to dry."

Boston has beaten Bobrovsky and the Blue Jackets (6-4-2) twice this season, scoring 11 goals in the two games. They have 26 goals in their other 12 games. On the other side, Columbus has yielded those 11 to Boston, and only 17 in its other 10 outings.

The Blue Jackets took advantage of a Zdeno Chara giveaway to take the lead 2:29 into the game. Chara's clearing attempt was stopped by Alexander Wennberg, who got the puck to Foligno. The Columbus captain snapped a wrist shot by Rask for his fifth goal of the season -- Wennberg's ninth assist in the last six games.

"They had some energy in the beginning," said Rask. "They got that goal and then a couple shifts after, they were still buzzing. But, we pushed even harder, got some goals, quick goals, and that was it. I think we played a very, very solid game."
