DALLAS -- Alex Pietrangelo scored the game-winning goal 2:11 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 5-4 overtime win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night at American Airlines Center.

Pietrangelo scored his fifth goal of the season with a wrist shot from the slot that deflected in off the right arm of Stars goaltender Antti Niemi, who stopped 31 of 36 shots.

Kevin Shattenkirk had two goals and Jaden Schwartz and Paul Stastny had two assists each for St. Louis (41-20-9). Jake Allen stopped 34 of 38 shots for the blues.

Jason Spezza scored twice for Dallas (41-20-9), who also got goals from Cody Eakin and Jamie Benn and two assists each from Alex Goligoski, Kris Russell and Tyler Seguin.

Benn tied it at 3-3 with 1:12 remaining to force overtime with Dallas on a 6-on-4 power play after redirecting a Seguin wrist shot for his 34th goal of the season.

Spezza added a second goal 6:02 into the third period when he scored off a rebound.

Tarasenko left the ice with 3:33 remaining with an injured left hand after being slashed by Dallas' Antoine Roussel near the Stars goal.

Dallas got a late power play with 3:08 remaining after Robby Fabbri was called for hooking and converted when Benn scored nearly two minutes later.

St. Louis struck first when Troy Brouwer collected his own rebound for his 14th goal of the season 8:47 into the opening period.

Niemi denied Brouwer's initial wrist shot from inside the left circle with a pad save, but Brouwer skated to the other side of the ice, gathered the carom and popped the puck into the open net to make it 1-0.

Dallas answered at 11:06 of the first when Cody Eakin scored his 13th goal of the season on a backhand. Stars captain Jamie Benn fed Eakin with a backhand pass from near center ice that split two St. Louis players.

Eakin gathered the puck inside the Blues zone and finished with a backhand that went top shelf and to the short side of Blues goaltender Jake Allen for the equalizer. Eakin punctuated the sequence by falling down during his ensuing goal celebration.

Vladimir Tarasenko gave the visitors a short-lived 2-1 lead with his 33rd goal of the season 1:37 into the middle frame during a 4-on-4 situation. Tarasenko's initial shot struck Dallas' Johnny Oduya in the hand, but Tarasenko got the carom and scored with a wrist shot that deflected in off Niemi's left shoulder.

Spezza pulled the game level 15 minutes later with his 27th goal of the season as Dallas was on the power play. Allen stopped the initial wrist shot by Tyler Seguin from the left circle, but the puck got behind Allen and Spezza poked it in for his sixth goal in as many games.

St. Louis pulled ahead again with 9:41 remaining in the second when Kevin Shattenkirk scored his 11th goal of the season on a wraparound during a 4-on-4. Niemi stopped the initial shot by Paul Stastny, but Shattenkirk gained possession, skated around the back of the Dallas goal and tucked the puck inside the near post to make it 3-2.

Shattenkirk added a second goal 46 seconds before the second intermission to make it 4-2. Shattenkirk's slap shot from the right point deflected off the knee of Stars rookie defenseman Stephen Johns, playing in his second NHL game, before landing in the back of the net.

The Blues led 4-2 after two periods despite being outshot 30-23.
