Blackhawks 4, Jets 3: Captain Jonathan Toews snapped a tie with 31 seconds remaining in the third period as visiting Chicago rallied to regain third place in the Central Division.

Winnipeg carried a 3-2 lead into the third before Patrick Sharp scored on a breakaway at 6:27 to tie it. After the Jets failed to cash in on a late power-play opportunity, Toews - a Winnipeg native - deflected defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson's blast from the right point past Ondrej Pavelec for the winning goal.

Andrew Shaw and Brad Richards also scored for the Blackhawks, who moved one point ahead of idle Minnesota for third in the division one day after being leapfrogged for the spot. Corey Crawford turned aside 31 shots as Chicago won for the second time in five games.

Former Blackhawk Dustin Byfuglien recorded two power-play goals and Blake Wheeler netted his team-leading 25th tally for the Jets, who remained two points ahead of idle Los Angeles for the second wild card in the Western Conference. Captain Andrew Ladd notched a pair of assists and Pavelec made 20 saves as Winnipeg lost for just the second time in seven contests.

Shaw gave Chicago the lead during a power play with 90 seconds remaining in the first period, but Byfuglien answered with a man-advantage tally of his own 4 1/2 minutes into the middle session and Wheeler converted a cross-slot pass from defenseman Tyler Myers while short-handed three minutes later to put the Jets ahead. Richards redirected blue-liner Johnny Oduya's shot from the left point at 16:19 to forge a tie before Byfuglien's blast from the blue line beat a screened Crawford with 26 seconds left in the period.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Byfuglien also scored twice on Jan. 13 against Florida. ... The Blackhawks improved to 9-4-1 without superstar RW Patrick Kane, who is sidelined with a fractured clavicle. ... Wheeler entered the contest tied for the team lead in goals with Ladd and C Bryan Little, who missed his 11th consecutive game with an upper-body injury. ... The road team won every contest of the five-game season series, with the Jets capturing the first three in Chicago and the Blackhawks answering with back-to-back wins at MTS Centre.
