Oilers 4, Stars 0: Richard Bachman stopped 29 shots to blank his former team as host Edmonton put a significant dent in Dallas' playoff quest.

Benoit Pouliot scored and set up a tally, Andrew Miller converted a penalty shot for his first NHL goal and Jordan Eberle and Derek Roy also tallied for the Oilers, who have recorded points in six of their last seven games (4-1-2). Bachman did the rest, making 10 saves in the first period, 13 in the second and six more in the third for his second career shutout and first victory since Feb. 15, 2013.

Kari Lehtonen made 24 saves in losing for the first time in 10 road starts. The defeat ended the Stars' four-game winning streak and left them eight points behind idle Winnipeg for the second Western Conference wild-card spot with seven games remaining.

Eberle needed just 33 seconds to open the scoring with his 22nd of the season. Following Tyler Seguin's turnover in the neutral zone, Eberle tapped the puck into the open side of the net after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins failed to convert during a 2-on-1 rush with Pouliot.

Dallas had the best scoring chance in the second period, but Bachman preserved the slim lead by sliding over to deny Patrick Eaves following a nifty pass from former Oiler Ales Hemsky. The Oilers rewarded him with a key insurance goal as Roy jabbed home the rebound of Nail Yakupov's shot at 9:24 of the third, and Pouliot and Miller iced things with goals 3:08 apart later in the session.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Lehtonen came into the game 9-0-0 with a 2.39 goals-against average and .920 save percentage in his previous nine contests away from Dallas. ... Two of the Stars' three shutout losses this season have come in March. ... Roy has recorded five goals in his last eight games.
