Canucks 3, Coyotes 1: Defenseman Alex Edler scored a power-play goal with 3:13 left in the third period to snap a tie as visiting Vancouver outlasted Arizona.

Fellow blue-liner Yannick Weber netted one tally and set up another while captain Henrik Sedin added an empty-netter for the Canucks, who moved four points ahead of idle Calgary for second place in the Pacific Division. Radim Vrbata and Daniel Sedin each notched a pair of assists and Jacob Markstrom made 26 saves for his first win in two starts this season.

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the lone goal for the Coyotes, whose losing streak reached eight games (0-7-1). Mike Smith turned aside 41 shots as Arizona fell for the 18th time in 19 contests (1-17-1).

Vancouver opened the scoring with 5:37 remaining in the first period, when Weber streaked into the slot and accepted a pass from the bottom of the left faceoff circle by Daniel Sedin before beating Smith to the stick side. It was the seventh goal of the campaign for Weber, eclipsing his previous career high set last season.

The lead lasted only 71 seconds as Ekman-Larsson knocked his own rebound past Markstrom for his team-leading 20th tally. Things remained even until late in the third, when Edler's blast from just above the left circle caromed off the left post and bounced in off the back of Smith for a 2-1 edge.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ekman-Larsson moved one goal ahead of Ottawa captain Erik Karlsson for the league lead among defensemen. ... Vancouver LW Alex Burrows was in the lineup after missing a large portion of the third period against Los Angeles on Saturday due to a hard hit from Tyler Toffoli. ... The Coyotes have scored fewer than three goals in each of their last 11 games and fewer than two in seven of the last eight contests.
