Senators 2, Hurricanes 1 (OT): Mark Stone scored 4:46 into overtime and rookie netminder Andrew Hammond tied a 76-year-old league record to lift surging Ottawa to its fourth consecutive victory.

Stone knocked in a forehand followed a dazzling move and drop pass by Kyle Turris while defenseman Patrick Wiercioch also tallied as the rampaging Senators improved to 12-1-1 in their last 14 games to inch closer to a wild-card slot. Hammond turned aside 35 shots to boost his record to 11-0-1 and match Boston's Frank Brimsek (1938-39) as the only netminders in NHL history to allow two goals or fewer in his first 12 career starts.

Elias Lindholm scored the lone goal for Carolina, which suffered its first regulation home loss to Ottawa in the last 13 meetings (11-1-1). Anton Khudobin suffered his first loss against the Senators (5-0-1) despite making 31 saves.

Jeff Skinner set up the opening goal at the 13-minute mark of the first period, sending a pinpoint pass from the left boards to Lindholm, who buried it from the right circle for his 15th goal. The Senators swarmed Carolina in the second period, unloading the first 13 shots and getting the equalizer on the power play.

Captain Erik Karlsson (two assists) got control off the faceoff and sent a cross-ice pass to Wiercioch, who hammered a one-timer from just inside the top of the right circle to the far corner with 6:38 left in the period for his first tally since Nov. 4. Hammond withstood an 18-shot barrage in the third period en route to his record performance.

Hurricanes D Ryan Murphy (illness) returned following a two-game absence while G Cam Ward, battling the flu that is causing havoc with the team, served as the backup to Khudobin. ... Senators G Craig Anderson is expected to be sidelined at least a week after aggravating a bone bruise in his right hand prior to Sunday's game at Philadelphia. Chris Driedger was recalled from Evansville of the ECHL to back up Hammond.
