Rangers 1, Blackhawks 0 (OT): Derick Brassard scored 32 seconds into overtime as visiting New York improved to 10-1-3 in its last 14 games.

After 60 scoreless minutes, the Rangers took advantage of poor positioning by the Blackhawks to emerge victorious. Mats Zuccarello made a cross-slot pass to a wide-open Brassard, who beat Corey Crawford to the stick side with a blast from the left faceoff dot to end a 14-game goal-scoring drought.

Cam Talbot made 29 saves en route to his fifth shutout of the season for the Rangers, who climbed within one point of the first-place New York Islanders in the Metropolitan Division with three games in hand. Captain Ryan McDonagh also notched an assist as the Rangers improved to 1-0-1 on their five-game road trip.

Crawford turned aside 35 shots for the Blackhawks, who completed a 2-0-1 homestand. Chicago has scored just one goal in its last two games but climbed within three points of St. Louis for second place in the Central.

The Rangers outshot the Blackhawks 16-8 in the first period before registering only five shots in the second while allowing 12. Chicago was unable to cash in on four power-play opportunities over the first 40 minutes but successfully killed its lone penalty in that span and extinguished a man advantage for New York in the final stages of the third session.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Talbot's eighth career shutout marked the first time the Rangers blanked Chicago since Eddie Giacomin accomplished the feat in January 1969. ... Former Rangers LW Daniel Carcillo was in the Blackhawks' lineup for just the second time in the team's last 10 contests and received a team-low 7:29 of ice time. ... The Rangers improved to 11-2-3 since G Henrik Lundqvist went down with a vascular injury.
