Predators 4, Avalanche 3 (OT): Craig Smith scored on a breakaway 2:46 into overtime as Nashville tied a franchise record with its eighth straight home victory.

Mike Ribeiro notched his third assist of the contest when his diagonal feed from along the right-wing boards found Smith, who skated in and beat Semyon Varlamov (35 saves) to end the contest. The victory snapped a two-game skid for the Predators while providing a rude ending for Colorado, which was playing in its league-leading 19th game that spanned past regulation.

Rookie Filip Forsberg scored his team-leading 16th goal while defenseman Roman Josi and Colin Wilson also tallied for Nashville. Captain Shea Weber notched two assists and Carter Hutton finished with 21 saves to improve to 2-4-3 on the season.

Colorado defenseman Nick Holden scored from the right doorstep with 36 seconds remaining in the third period to forge a 3-3 tie. Jarome Iginla netted his team-leading 15th goal and Cody McLeod also tallied for the Avalanche, who fell to 5-8-4 against Central rivals after winning the division last season.

McLeod deflected defenseman Zach Redmond's blast past Hutton with 8:08 remaining in the first period to draw first blood before Weber set up Josi for a one-timer at 3:33 of the second, and Wilson cleaned up a rebound during a power play less than 10 minutes later. Iginla's blast from the right faceoff circle beat Hutton with 3:55 left in the session to level the contest at 2-2 before Forsberg followed his own shot and beat Varlamov from a sharp angle 32 seconds into the third to give Nashville a 3-2 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Nashville also won eight in a row at home from Jan. 6-Feb. 8, 2007. ... Wilson's tally gave the Predators five power-play goals in as many games. ... Colorado failed on both power-play opportunities to drop to 3-for-34 over its last 12 games.
