Kings 2, Maple Leafs 0: Anze Kopitar scored 37 seconds into the contest and added an assist while Martin Jones posted his seventh career shutout as host Los Angeles halted its three-game slide.

Marian Gaborik added a goal for the Kings, who improved to 1-1-2 on their seven-game homestand. Jones finished with 19 saves and Jeff Carter notched a pair of assists in the win.

Former King Jonathan Bernier turned aside 18 shots for the Maple Leafs, who lost for the ninth time in 12 games. Richard Panik registered a game-high four shots on goal as Toronto fell to 2-7-0 in its last nine on the road.

Los Angeles got on the board before the Staples Center faithful got settled in their seats, but not without some confusion. Defenseman Drew Doughty skated down the right wing and around the net before making a cross-crease pass to fellow All-Star Kopitar, whose shot from the right side bounced in and out so quickly that play continued before video review confirmed the goal at the next stoppage.

Jones made the goal stand, stopping three shots in the first period, eight in the second and eight more in the third for his third shutout in four starts. Gaborik sealed the victory by scoring into an empty net with one minute remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jones was making his first start since Dec. 12, when he surrendered six goals on 20 shots at Montreal. ... Kopitar has collected 21 points and Gaborik has notched 15 over the Kings' last 12 contests. ... The Maple Leafs had their three-game winning streak at Staples Center come to an end.
