Oilers 5, Islanders 2: Matt Hendricks scored a pair of goals as Edmonton kicked off its four-game homestand with its second straight win at Rexall Place.

Jordan Eberle and newcomers Derek Roy and Matt Fraser also tallied for the Oilers, who posted their second win in 13 contests (2-7-4). Rob Klinkhammer notched an assist in his Edmonton debut and Ben Scrivens turned aside 31 shots.

Defenseman Johnny Boychuk recorded a power-play goal and an assist while Brock Nelson also scored with the man advantage for the Islanders, who had their four-game point streak halted. Captain John Tavares registered two assists and Jaroslav Halak made 18 saves as New York dropped to 2-1-0 on its season-high seven-game road trip.

The Oilers opened the scoring with 3:01 remaining in the first period thanks to a turnover by Halak. The goaltender fanned on a backhanded clearing attempt while being pressured by Klinkhammer, allowing Hendricks to grab the loose puck and deposit it into the vacant net. Eberle doubled the lead eight seconds into the middle session, taking a cross-ice pass from Taylor Hall and beating Halak from the right faceoff circle.

New York halved the deficit at 3:41, when Boychuk unleashed a blast from above the right circle that beat Scrivens to the short side during a power play. Another bad turnover led to a goal 2:33 into the third as former Oilers defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky lost control of the puck behind the net and it squirted into the slot to Roy, who buried it for a 3-1 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hendricks capped his two-goal performance with an empty-netter with 2 1/2 minutes remaining in the third period and Fraser beat Halak 17 seconds later with a blast from the left circle to make it 5-1. ... Tavares' assist on Boychuk's tally was his 350th career point. ... New York fell to 3-1-1 in its last five road games while Edmonton improved to 3-14-8 in its last 25 overall.
