Rangers 5, Canucks 1: Mats Zuccarello scored twice while captain Ryan McDonagh and fellow defenseman Marc Staal each netted their first goal of the season as visiting New York posted its fifth straight victory over Vancouver.

J.T. Miller also tallied and Henrik Lundqvist finished with 29 saves for the Rangers, who won the opener of their four-game road trip to improve to 2-4-1 in their last seven contests away from Madison Square Garden. Rick Nash notched two assists to extend his point streak to a career high-tying nine games and Derick Brassard also set up a pair of goals.

Nick Bonino scored early in the third period for his first goal since Nov. 6, but the Canucks mustered little else and dropped their fourth in a row. Ryan Miller turned aside 18 shots in the setback.

New York scored on three of its first four shots to take a commanding lead after just 6:46 of action. Jesper Fast patiently sized up his options before wiring a diagonal feed to the left doorstep to McDonagh at 2:36, J.T. Miller capped an odd-man rush 43 seconds later and Zuccarello's quick wrist shot from the right faceoff circle completed the flurry.

Staal's blast from the point beat a screened Ryan Miller at 7:17 of the second period to give the Rangers a 4-0 lead. Martin St. Louis was unable to convert his penalty shot over five minutes later, but Zuccarello tapped home a centering feed at 17:39 of the session to cap his sixth career two-goal performance.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York RW Kevin Hayes recorded an assist to extend his point streak to five straight contests. Hayes has scored two tallies and set up three others during his run while Nash has collected six goals and five assists on his streak. ... St. Louis has failed to convert on all seven penalty-shot attempts in his career. ... Vancouver was unsuccessful on its lone power-play opportunity to drop to 0-for-14 in its last five games.
