Canucks 5, Blue Jackets 0: Ryan Miller turned aside 31 shots for his second straight shutout as visiting Vancouver extended its point streak to five games.

Brad Richardson and Chris Higgins recorded a goal and an assist apiece while captain Henrik Sedin, Shawn Matthias and Alex Burrows each tallied for the Canucks, who began a seven-game road trip. Nick Bonino added three assists and Miller posted his 32nd career shutout – and third of the season – as Vancouver improved to 4-0-1 in its last five contests.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves but allowed at least three goals for the eighth time in his last nine starts for Columbus, which is winless in five games (0-4-1). The Blue Jackets have won only two of their last 16 contests.

Miller stopped eight shots in the first period and 11 more in the second while the Canucks killed off a penalty in each session. Vancouver took a 1-0 lead into the third as Higgins surprised Bobrovsky with a bad-angle shot that beat him to the short side with 4:35 left in the second.

The Canucks doubled their lead 48 seconds into the third session as Radim Vrbata skated behind the net and hooked a pass back to Sedin, who chipped a shot inside the left post. Matthias scored with 8:11 remaining for a 3-0 lead, Richardson added an empty-net goal with over five minutes to play and Burrows capped the onslaught with 2:34 left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Vancouver is 6-1-0 against Eastern Conference teams and 9-0-1 when leading after two periods. … Columbus' Tim Erixon returned to the lineup after being scratched for three straight games, taking the place of fellow D Kevin Connauton, who was a former Vancouver draft pick. … Miller, who blanked New Jersey on Tuesday, has allowed one goal – none at even strength – in the last three games to push his victory total to a league high-tying 15 for the season.
