Canucks 2, Devils 0: Ryan Miller made 20 saves for his 31st career shutout to lift host Vancouver over New Jersey.

Alexandre Burrows and Shawn Matthias each scored a goal as the Canucks spoiled Cory Schneider's return to the city where he spent the first five seasons of his career. Miller won his third straight start with his second shutout of the season and third of his career against the Devils.

Schneider, making his 21st start in 22 contests for New Jersey, turned aside 34 shots to remain winless in three games (0-1-2) against his former teammates as the Devils fell to 3-7-1 in their last 11.

Vancouver swarmed New Jersey from the outset, unleashing the first nine shots on goal and pouring 17 shots on Schneider in a dominant first period. The Canucks finally got on the board 74 seconds into the second when Burrows redirected defenseman Kevin Bieksa's wide, bouncing shot from the right point.

Burrows, back in the lineup after missing the past two games, nearly doubled the lead midway through the third when he rang a shot off the post while Miller preserved the lead with a pad save on Steve Bernier. Matthias supplied the insurance tally on a breakaway as his initial attempt was stopped by Schneider, but the rebound went in off Devils defenseman Marek Zidlicky.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Canucks held a pregame ceremony to honor the late Pat Quinn, who served as a player, coach and executive with the organization and guided the team to the Stanley Cup final in 1994. The players will wear green four-leaf clover patches on the back of their helmets for the rest of the season in his memory. ... The Devils killed off both of Vancouver power plays and are 27-of-28 in short-handed situations over the past seven games. ... Canucks rookie F Bo Horvat, acquired in the deal for Schneider, was told earlier Tuesday that he would remain with the club rather than be sent back to juniors.
