Blackhawks 4, Flames 3: Patrick Kane's unassisted goal near the midway point of the third period lifted visiting Chicago past Calgary.

Adam Clendening scored in his first NHL game while Daniel Carcillo and defenseman Brent Seabrook also had goals for the Blackhawks, who overcame a rare off-night on the penalty kill to open their annual circus trip with a victory. Kane finished with two points and Corey Crawford made 24 saves for his eighth win.

Paul Byron, defenseman Dennis Wideman and Sean Monahan countered for the Flames, who fell to 3-1-0 on a five-game homestand that concludes Saturday against New Jersey. Byron added an assist while Jonas Hiller stopped 18 shots in defeat.

Clendening opened the scoring on a Chicago power play at the four-minute mark, one-timing a shot from just inside the blue line that eluded Hiller low on the blocker side. Carcillo made it 2-0 at 7:12 before the Flames replied with power-play goals 54 seconds apart - the second a Wideman slapshot that snuck past Crawford's left pad.

Seabrook gave the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead 10:52 into the middle frame, but Monahan drew Calgary even for a second time just 1:41 later with a one-timer of a Curtis Glencross pass. Kane put Chicago ahead for a third time at 9:12, jumping on a loose puck and banging it past Hiller's glove after the Calgary goalie failed to convert a pass behind his own net.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago came into the night with the league's best penalty-killing unit at 92.3 percent but allowed two Calgary power-play goals on five chances. ... Wideman leads all defensemen with eight goals - five shy of his career best. ... Flames F Johnny Gaudreau had an assist and sits second among rookies with 14 points.
