Capitals 2, Coyotes 1 (OT): Eric Fehr scored on a rebound at 3:16 of overtime as Washington won in Arizona for the first time since January 2006.

Brooks Orpik unleashed a slap shot from the top of the left circle and Fehr was all alone on the doorstep to slide the rebound into the right corner as the Capitals halted a modest two-game skid. Jay Beagle scored a first-period goal and Braden Holtby turned aside 23 shots for Washington.

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for the Coyotes, who were denied their third straight victory in their only home contest during a seven-game stretch. Mike Smith made 22 saves en route to losing his fourth consecutive start.

The Capitals opened the scoring at 11:11 when Jason Chimera slid a pass from the left boards to a onrushing Beagle, who buried a shot from the slot to the left corner. Sam Gagner made a spectacular play two minutes into the second, faking a shot from the right circle before sending a behind-the-back crossing pass to give Ekman-Larsson a wide-open net from the left dot for the equalizer.

Coyotes defenseman Zbynek Michalek preserved the tie in the third period by swatting away a puck near the goal line after it has caromed off his skate before fellow blue-liner Michael Stone had to leave the ice shortly afterward after taking a puck to the face. The Capitals failed on three chances with the man advantage and have gone three games without a power-play goal for the first time this season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gagner, playing in his 500th career game, picked up his 199th career assist on Arizona's first goal. ... Chimera, who was held off the scoresheet in his previous seven games, collected just his third point and second assist of the season. ... Coyotes D Brandon Gormley (lower body) was placed on injured reserve and is expected to be sidelined for at least a week while C Martin Hanzal (lower body) is listed as day-to-day.
