Blackhawks 6, Stars 2: Patrick Kane recorded the go-ahead goal early in the third period and set up a pair of tallies while Brad Richards added two assists in his 1,000th career game as Chicago pulled away from visiting Dallas.

Kris Versteeg also had a goal and two assists while defenseman Duncan Keith and captain Jonathan Toews each scored once and set up another for the Blackhawks, who tallied four times in the third period. Brandon Saad and defenseman Brent Seabrook also scored and Corey Crawford turned aside 22 shots for the victory.

Curtis McKenzie scored his first NHL goal and Shawn Horcoff also tallied for the Stars, who have won only twice in their last 11 games. Kari Lehtonen made 41 saves for Dallas, which was outshot 23-5 in the final 20 minutes and has been outscored in 27-11 in the third period this season.

Richards corralled the puck in the slot and bounced a pass to Kane at the bottom of the right circle, where he roofed a shot to give Chicago a 3-2 lead 4:49 into the final period. Toews doubled the advantage on a wraparound at 12:34 while Versteeg and Saad added tallies and Marian Hossa notched two assists in the third.

Kane set up Keith to open the scoring 1:18 into the game before McKenzie went to the net to tip in Erik Cole’s pass at 4:49 to tie it. Horcoff gave the Stars a lead 39 seconds later on a rebound, but Seabrook equalized on the power play with 8:02 left in the first on a blast from the point that deflected off Dallas captain Jamie Benn’s stick.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Blackhawks D Trevor van Riemsdyk took a shot off a leg in the first period and did not return. … Cole registered his 500th career point with an assist and Stars D John Klingberg notched his first NHL point after helping set up Horcoff’s tally. … The Blackhawks assigned F Peter Regin and G Antti Raanta to Rockford of the American Hockey League and recalled G Scott Darling and F Joakim Nordstrom.
