Canadiens 4, Red Wings 1: Defenseman P.K. Subban, Brendan Gallagher and Tomas Plekanec each had a goal and an assist as visiting Montreal rolled to its sixth consecutive victory.

Brandon Prust also scored for the surging Canadiens, who matched their longest winning streak since a six-game run in March 2010. Backup netminder Dustin Tokarski turned aside 28 shots as Montreal halted Detroit's home point streak at seven games (5-0-2).

Riley Sheahan had a power-play goal as the Red Wings absorbed only their second regulation defeat in nine games (4-2-3). Jimmy Howard made 15 saves for Detroit, which was limited to three second-period shots despite three power plays in the session.

Montreal capitalized on a line change just as one of those power plays was expiring when Prust skated down the wing on a 2-on-1 and beat Howard short side from the right circle for his first goal of the season at 3:20. The Canadiens doubled the lead just over five minutes later in somewhat painful fashion when, off a faceoff, Subban's errant shot hit Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey in the groin and caromed past Howard.

Plekanec seemingly put the game out of reach less than two minutes into the third, finishing off a 2-on-1 by knocking home a rebound, but Detroit finally converted with the man advantage when Sheahan connected on a backhanded off a rebound at the 4:06 mark. However, Gallagher restored the three-goal cushion 4 1/2 minutes later with yet another ricochet as Gallagher banked a shot off Howard while on one knee behind the net.
