Sabres 6, Maple Leafs 2: Zemgus Girgensons scored twice and Tyler Ennis and Matt Moulson each collected a goal and two assists as host Buffalo benefited from a season high in tallies to snap a five-game winless skid (0-4-1).

Drew Stafford scored and set up a goal and defenseman Tyler Myers also tallied for the Sabres, who avenged last month's 4-0 loss to Toronto by scoring their most goals in a game since a 7-4 win over Boston on Jan. 31, 2013. Michal Neuvirth finished with 32 saves as Buffalo secured its fourth win of the season.

David Clarkson and Phil Kessel scored late in the second period for the Maple Leafs, who have dropped two in a row and saw their three-game winning streak versus Buffalo come to an end. Defenseman Cody Franson notched an assist to extend his career-high point streak to seven games and James Reimer turned aside 29 shots to fall to 7-3-2 in 12 career starts against the Sabres.

Ennis cleaned up a rebound of Stafford's bid from the right doorstep at 15:40 as Buffalo scored in the opening period at home for the first time this season. The Sabres doubled the advantage just under three minutes later as Brian Flynn beat a diving Reimer to a puck in the left circle and patiently set up Girgensons, who slapped it home into the gaping net.

Stafford gave Buffalo a 3-0 lead at 7:10 of the second after skating into the offensive zone and cutting across the high slot before wiring a shot from the upper edge of the right circle that sailed over the glove of Reimer. Clarkson's deflection of Franson's shot from the point put Toronto on the scoreboard with 1:19 remaining in the second, but Moulson tapped home Ennis' saucer pass on a 2-on-1 rush to regain the three-goal advantage just 16 seconds later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Moulson has scored 10 goals and set up four others in his last 10 meetings with Toronto. ... Franson collected two goals and seven assists on his point streak. ... Buffalo LW Marcus Foligno logged 12:26 of ice time in his return from a one-game absence due to an upper-body injury. ... Rick Jeanneret rejoined the Sabres' broadcast team to call the first period, marking his first game since announcing that he was cancer-free.
