Rangers 5, Penguins 0: Rick Nash scored his league-leading 12th goal and added two assists while Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves to extend his franchise record with his 53rd career shutout as host New York snapped Pittsburgh's seven-game winning streak.

Martin St. Louis added his fourth tally in five contests for the Rangers, who won the opener of the four-game season series after rebounding from a 3-1 deficit to eliminate the Penguins in the second round of the playoffs last spring. Derick Brassard netted a power-play goal, Mats Zuccarello and defenseman Kevin Klein also scored and Derek Stepan and blue-liner Marc Staal each notched a pair of assists in the rout.

Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside 30 shots for Pittsburgh, which yielded a power-play goal for the first time in 40 opportunities dating to Oct. 16 versus Dallas. The Penguins were able to get the puck past Lundqvist on one occasion during the first period, but New York's Tanner Glass alertly swatted it away as it skidded toward the goal line.

After getting ripped by coach Alain Vigneault and assistant Ulf Samuelsson following Sunday's 3-1 lackluster loss to Edmonton, the Rangers wasted little time making amends versus Pittsburgh. Stepan cleanly won a faceoff and Zuccarello spotted the loose puck and wristed a shot from the right faceoff circle past Fleury at 8:23 before St. Louis doubled the advantage 2 1/2 minutes later by sweeping Nash's feed into a gaping net from the doorstep.

The Rangers kept up the intensity as Klein unleashed a blast from the point that beat Fleury inside the left post with 5:13 remaining in the first before Brassard's wrist shot from left faceoff dot caromed off the goaltender's left shoulder and under the crossbar midway through the second. Nash converted Stepan's centering feed 7:45 into the third for New York's first short-handed goal of the season and Lundqvist kept the Penguins at bay for his third shutout of 2014-15.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Zuccarello became the second Norwegian-born player to reach 100 points in his career, joining Espen Knutsen (111). ... New York D John Moore registered two shots and blocked a pair in his return after serving a five-game suspension for his illegal hit on Minnesota's Erik Haula on Oct. 27. ... Pittsburgh RW Beau Bennett made his season debut after being recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League earlier in the day. ... New York Mets RHP Jacob deGrom, who won the National League Rookie of the Year Award on Monday, was in attendance at Madison Square Garden.
