Blackhawks 5, Sharks 2: Defensemen Trevor van Riemsdyk, Brent Seabrook and Niklas Hjalmarsson scored 2:34 apart in the first period as Chicago halted its three-game home losing streak.

Captain Jonathan Toews recorded an empty-net goal and an assist while Bryan Bickell also tallied for the Blackhawks, who had lost three of four overall. Corey Crawford turned aside 32 shots in his fifth consecutive start as Chicago bounced back from a loss to Washington on Friday in which it squandered a two-goal lead.

Joe Pavelski registered his second two-goal performance of the season for the Sharks, who dropped to 1-1-0 on their seven-game road trip. Joe Thornton set up both tallies and Antti Niemi made 32 saves against his former team.

Van Riemsdyk opened the scoring exactly 12 minutes into the contest, beating Niemi with a one-timer from the right point for his first NHL goal. Seabrook doubled the lead at 14:10 with a one-time blast from the blue line and Hjalmarsson wristed the puck past Niemi from the slot 24 seconds later for a seemingly comfortable 3-0 advantage.

Pavelski got San Jose back in the game by scoring the next two goals. The veteran deflected defenseman Justin Braun's shot from the right point past Crawford 58 seconds after Hjalmarsson's tally and converted Thornton's pass across the top of the crease from the left side of the net during a power play 4:51 into the second period, but Bickell answered on a turnaround shot from the left circle with 4:42 left in third.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Van Riemsdyk family had plenty to celebrate Sunday as Trevor's goal was his first point in 15 career games while older brother James also scored for Toronto in its win over Ottawa. ... Blackhawks RW Patrick Kane has scored just one goal in his last 10 games. ... Thornton increased his career point total to 1,208, putting him one behind Bernie Nicholls for 43rd place on the all-time list. ... Chicago had 13 of its 18 skaters record at least one point.
