Sharks 3, Jets 0: Patrick Marleau recorded a goal and an assist for the second straight game and Alex Stalock made 30 saves as host San Jose registered its second consecutive shutout to begin the season.

Defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Tomas Hertl also scored for the Sharks, who blanked the reigning Stanley Cup-champion Kings in Los Angeles in their 2014-15 opener on Wednesday. Blue-liner Brent Burns notched his third assist of the campaign as San Jose became the seventh team in NHL history to post shutouts in each of its first two contests.

Ondrej Pavelec turned aside 23 shots for the Jets. Winnipeg outshot San Jose 27-11 over the final 40 minutes and held the Sharks without a shot in the third period.

Vlasic opened the scoring 3:22 into the contest with a wrist shot from the blue line that glanced off Winnipeg defenseman Mark Stuart and past Pavelec. Hertl doubled the lead 1:50 later, beating the goaltender during a partial breakaway after receiving a lead pass at the blue line.

Marleau made it 3-0 with 29 seconds remaining in the middle period, racing in alone and making several dekes before beating Pavelec to the stick side for his second goal in as many games. Stalock worked hard to preserve his third career shutout, stopping 14 shots in the final session.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Winnipeg was without LW Evander Kane, who is expected to miss at least two weeks with a knee injury suffered in the season opener. ... San Jose was unable to get its power play in gear, going 0-for-8 with the man advantage. ... Marleau's goal was the 439th of his career, moving him past Gary Roberts for sole possession of 64th place on the all-time list.
