Blackhawks 3, Kings 1: Brandon Saad scored a power-play goal and set up defenseman Duncan Keith's go-ahead tally midway into the second period as host Chicago seized the opener of its Western Conference final.

Captain Jonathan Toews capped the scoring by converting a 3-on-1 rush with 3:50 remaining in the third period. Marian Hossa notched two assists and Corey Crawford made 25 saves for the reigning Stanley Cup-champion Blackhawks, who have won all seven of their home games in the playoffs and 11 consecutive contests in their own building dating to the regular season.

Tyler Toffoli scored and Jonathan Quick turned aside 17 shots for the Kings, who lost all three road games in last year's conference final versus Chicago. Los Angeles, which played its first playoff contest outside of California, looks to rebound in Game 2 at United Center on Wednesday.

With the score tied at 1-1, Marcus Kruger forced a turnover in the neutral zone before Saad wired a cross-ice feed to Keith. The defenseman unleashed a shot from the point that deflected off the stick of Los Angeles' Trevor Lewis before sailing over the glove of Quick at 11:54 of the second to give the Blackhawks the advantage. Toffoli hit the post on a breakaway early in the third before Toews scored his sixth goal to effectively seal the win.

Chicago drew first blood in the waning moments of its time on the power play as Saad deflected blue-liner Nick Leddy's shot from the point past Quick with 5:14 remaining in the first period. After an apparent goal by Toews was disallowed, Los Angeles forged a 1-1 at 4:35 of the second as Tanner Pearson's pass from along the end line was redirected home by Toffoli.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Toews drove to the net and appeared to give Chicago a 2-0 lead at 3:22 of the second period, but officials reversed the call after deeming the captain made incidental contact with Quick before the puck crossed the goal line. Under league rules, the play is not reviewable and the decision on the ice was allowed to stand. ... Chicago LW Patrick Sharp and Los Angeles C Jeff Carter played in their 100th career postseason contests. ... Kings D Willie Mitchell returned from an eight-game absence due to a lower-body injury.
