Hurricanes 3, Blue Jackets 1: Anton Khudobin turned aside a career-high 46 shots, including 18 of 19 attempts in the third period, as visiting Carolina held on to defeat Columbus.

Andrei Loktionov and Patrick Dwyer contributed a goal and an assist apiece while Nathan Gerbe scored his 15th of the season for the Hurricanes. Defenseman Jay Harrison set up a pair of tallies for Carolina, which did not register a shot in the third period before ending a two-game slide.

Boone Jenner scored in the final minute of the contest for Columbus, which saw its six-game home point streak (5-0-1) come to an end. Sergei Bobrovsky, who started for the 15th straight contest, stopped 17 of 20 shots over the first two periods before Curtis McElhinney relieved him in the third for the Blue Jackets.

Columbus had an 11-5 edge in shots in the first period, but Gerbe beat Bobrovsky stick side from the right circle to complete a 2-on-1 break 3:41 into the contest. Loktionov got to the net to poke home the rebound of Harrison’s shot on the power play 2:23 into the middle period for his first goal with Carolina.

Dwyer extended the lead to 3-0 with 2:40 left in the second, taking a pass from Loktionov on the rush and beating Bobrovsky with a blast from the top of the right circle. Khudobin lost his shutout with 50 seconds left when Jenner deflected Ryan Johansen’s shot past him.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Carolina was without D Justin Faulk and rookie C Elias Lindholm due to illness while LW Jiri Tlusty missed his second straight game with a lower-body injury. Hurricanes D Ryan Murphy left in the first period with an upper-body injury and did not return. … Blue Jackets D James Wisniewski had six shots on goal, four hits and a pair of blocks. … Carolina won at Columbus for the first time since March 8, 2004 after losing in its last four visits.
