Sabres 5, Blue Jackets 2: Defenseman Christian Ehrhoff scored a short-handed goal late in the first period and added two assists as visiting Buffalo ended Columbus' franchise-best winning streak at eight games.

Marcus Foligno netted a short-handed tally and captain Steve Ott, Cody Hodgson and Matt Ellis also scored for the Sabres, who ended a five-game winless skid (0-3-2). Ryan Miller finished with 36 saves - including a behind-the-back gem on Artem Anisimov.

Curtis McElhinney made 10 saves in relief of Sergei Bobrovsky, who yielded three goals on 10 shots. Derek MacKenzie scored for the second straight contest and set up Mark Letestu's tally for the Blue Jackets, who fell for the first time since a 6-2 setback to St. Louis on Jan. 4.

Ehrhoff recorded his 300th career point by taking advantage of a failed clearing attempt by Bobrovsky and wiring a shot over his glove to give Buffalo a 2-1 lead with 30 seconds left in the first period. Foligno doubled the advantage 3:28 into the second by breezing up the right wing before sending a shot from the high slot just inside the right post to chase Bobrovsky.

Buffalo opened the scoring in surprising fashion as Ellis' backhander from well beyond the circle sailed through traffic and beat Bobrovsky at 2:21 of the first period. MacKenzie leveled the contest 10 1/2 minutes later after one-timing rookie Ryan Murray's return pass from the right circle.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Sabres scored two short-handed goals in a game for the first time since March 30, 2007, versus the New York Islanders. ... Buffalo LW Tyler Ennis saw his career-best six-game point streak come to an end. Ennis had scored three goals and set up four others during the stretch. ... Columbus was forced to play with five defensemen after David Savard sat out with an illness and fellow D Cody Goloubef was ruled out after he failed to make it to the arena in time. Goloubef was recalled from Springfield of the American Hockey League earlier on Saturday.
