Avalanche 3, Blackhawks 2 (OT): Defenseman Tyson Barrie scored his second goal of the game at 4:09 of overtime on the power play and Semyon Varlamov made a season-high 46 saves as visiting Colorado prevailed after squandering a 2-0 lead.

With captain Jonathan Toews off for hooking, Barrie - back in the lineup after missing a game with a shoulder injury - one-timed Matt Duchene's feed past Corey Crawford for his third goal in his last three games. Ryan O'Reilly scored his team-leading 17th goal while Varlamov improved to 9-0-5 in his last 14 starts.

Andrew Shaw scored for the second straight game and added an assist while defenseman Johnny Oduya tallied for the first time since Nov. 25 for Chicago, which fell to 2-1-4 in its last seven games and 0-5 in overtime this season. Brandon Saad recorded two assists while Crawford stopped 23 shots.

Barrie started the scoring after his wrist shot from the blue line found its way through a maze of players at 14:58 of the first period. Colorado took a 2-0 lead as O'Reilly accepted a touch pass from Jamie McGinn in the deep slot, and had time and space to circle and beat Crawford with a low wrist shot to the stick side 1:02 later on the power play.

Chicago cut the deficit when Saad carried the puck off the half wall and his wrist shot from the high slot was tipped in by Oduya at 8:12 of the second period. The Blackhawks got even with 12:33 left in regulation after Shaw settled the rebound of Saad's bid and slid a shot past Varlamov from the slot.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Avalanche C Paul Stastny (13 goals, 34 points) was out of the lineup because of a leg injury and they were forced to play with 17 skaters after D Cory Sarich (back) was a late scratch. Colorado also lost D Erik Johnson to a back injury in the second period. ... The Blackhawks were 0-for-5 on the power play while taking 14 shots. ... Duchene hit two posts and Chicago D Michal Rozsival caught iron with just over seven minutes to play in a 2-2 game.
